Yoshi's New Island is a game for the Nintendo 3DS. It was developed by Arzest and published by Nintendo in 2014. It is the third installment of the Yoshi's Island series, following after Yoshi's Island DS. In 2015, Yoshi's New Island was re-released as a Nintendo Selects title in Europe, then in North America and Australia in 2016.

Despite being the third Yoshi's Island installment, Yoshi's New Island is significantly more based on the first game, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and does not reuse any of the mechanics introduced in Yoshi's Island DS. The story of Yoshi's New Island also takes place directly after Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island's.

Development

Yoshi's New Island was announced at Nintendo Direct in April 2013. It was released in North America on March 14, 2014.

Gameplay

Yoshi's New Island's gameplay remains the same from the other Yoshi's Island games, as a Yoshi usually escorts babies, such as Baby Mario, and eats enemies to use eggs as projectiles. There are two new types of eggs; one of them is Mega Eggdozers, which destroy almost everything in it's path, that are obtained from big Shy Guys/Lantern Ghosts and Egg Blocks; the second new egg is the Metal Eggdozer, which allows you to sink underwater instead of floating on the surface as well as, instead of being chucked in the air, rolling on the floor, also obtained from metal Shy Guys and Lantern Ghosts as well as metal egg blocks; both of these eggs are capable of granting multiple 1-UPs by destroying a lot of destructible terrain, similar to the Mega Mushroom from New Super Mario Bros. being able to get 1-UPs by doing the same thing.
