World 8-Castle is the forty-fourth level of Super Mario 3D Land.

Layout

The level opens with a "P" switch that raises a small bridge below the lava. Two Magikoopas spawn in this area, as well. Along the path of the level, Mario must dodge several fire-based enemies such as Podoboos and Magmaarghs. Two fiery pillars encircle the pole that takes Mario to the next portion of the level, and atop this area, a Firebar moves around as a minor obstacle for Mario. Afterward, Mario use a green platform to ride onto the next part of the level. However, along this small lava pit, several Magmaarghs rise out of the lava and attack Mario. Here, Mario makes his way to the level's Checkpoint.

Atop the wall before him, Mario battles a trio of Boomerang Bros. Here, Mario can use a pair of binoculars to gaze at the final portions of the level. Upon reaching the vast lava sea before him, Mario discovers new invisible platforms that appear upon getting close to them. These platforms guide Mario to a teleportation block which leads to the area in which Mario confronts Bowser for what will hopefully be the last time.

As Mario defeats Bowser, he enters the castle only to find that the princess is not here. He runs up the stairs onto the top of the castle which then takes him to the level's Flagpole. Upon beating the level, two more levels and another page of World 8 is unlocked.

Enemies

Enemies that appeared in World 8-Castle:

Boss battle

The fight with Bowser is just like any thus far. Mario must dodge his fire blasts while nearing Bowser by running through the several platforms lain out before him. When Mario gets too close to Bowser, he'll jump up and unleach a fiery circle that will damage Mario upon contact. Bowser will also spin around and damage Mario with his tail. Among these attacks, Bowser also can use his fire breath on Mario. As Mario moves about the platforms, Bowser will also jump about to either catch up or get away from Mario.

Collectibles

  • The first Star Coin can be obtained by hanging down onto the bottom part of the pole between the rising fire spouts.
  • The second Star Coin is located with the trio of Boomerang Bros. Mario must fall into the small lava pit, but quickly wall-kick jump his way out of the small pit.
  • If Mario is armed with a Super Leaf, he can acquire the final Star Coin of the level by jumping from one of the circular platforms during the battle with Bowser onto one of the platforms ahead over the lava to reach the coin.
