World 8-6 is the forty-fifth level of Super Mario 3D Land.

Layout[]

World 8-6, although not one in overworld appearance, is constructed similar to that of a castle level of the game. The level opens with three grated platforms above lava that fall when weight is applied. Mario must then ride a cylindrical platform over a small fiery river in order to reach the other side. A Wallop guards the path the of a large bolt above the lava pit. Mario must run around this bolt and move upward toward a teleportation box that leads Mario to the level's Checkpoint.

The second half of the level opens with a large cross-shaped platform that rotates as it moves about the fire sea below. Mario must use this platform to reach the far end of the level. Another cylindrical platform awaits Mario as he leaves the cross-shaped platform. Unlike with the last cylinder, Mario must traverse across a sea that has fiery pillars shooting out of it. At the end of this ride, Mario finds another bolt, and this one is used to move up onto the last portion of the level.

Along this final, rotating platform, Mario must dodge fiery spouts and Magikoopa attacks. At the end of this path, a teleportation block will take Mario to the final area of the level where the Flagpole is found. Mario must ride a small cylinder onto the platform with the pole.

Enemies[]

Enemies that appeared in World 8-6:

Star Medals[]

  • Star Medal 1: Mario finds the first Star Medal of the level at the first large bolt. Here, Mario must move in the opposite direction of the teleportation block to obtain this first coin.
  • Star Medal 2: The second Star Medal is located on a square, grated platform on the path of the second cylindrical platform. Mario must jump onto the platform, and let it sink a little to obtain this coin.
  • Star Medal 3: The final Star Medal is found along the long rotating platform, near the back.
