World 8-4 is a level found in the game New Super Mario Bros.

Overview[]

The level is a haunted mountain featuring an endless supply of Scuttlebugs.

Walkthrough[]

NSMB ScuttleBug

At the start, you should avoid the few Scuttlebugs and find an orange ? Block with a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower. Mario will then come across a series of rising platforms whilst dodging more Scuttlebugs. Afterwards, he'll find the first Star Coin guarded by a red Koopa Troopa and four more Scuttlebugs.

After collecting it, Mario will pass by the Checkpoint Flag, and find another ? Block with a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower. Next, Mario must make through more moving platforms and Scuttlebugs to get the second Star Coin. Afterwards, you can find a ? Block holding a Starman, which can be used to quickly bypass the Scuttlebugs on the moving platforms. You'll also find a mini Warp Pipe which leads to the third Star Coin. Nevertheless, after crossing through, Mario will find the Flagpole. Just avoid the lone Scuttlebug to reach it and complete the level.

Enemies[]

Star Coins[]

  • Star Coin 1: To get the first Star Coin, jump on one of the Scuttlebugs just before the Checkpoint to gain a bit of extra height to get to the ledge with the Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 2: The second Star Coin is above the last moving stone platform in the section after the Checkpoint. Jump up high to get the Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 3: The final Star Coin is debatably the hardest to get in the game. You are going to need to get a Mini Mushroom and then maintain it all the way up to near the level's end. It's best if you have the Mini Mushroom in your inventory. The tough part is if you use it, the Mini Mushroom will stay dangling above you and it might fall off the edge due to the shifting platforms. The Scuttlebugs above are also a problem as there is an endless supply of them and if one hits you as Mini Mario. Mini Mario is done for. Enter the mini pipe as Mini Mario and get the Star to defeat all the Micro Goombas along the way then get the final Star Coin and exit the pipe.

Trivia[]

NSMB W8-4 Early Version
  • Early screenshots during development of New Super Mario Bros. showed that World 8-4 would have used the jungle tileset from World 4 levels, before using a recolored version of the mountain tilesets from World 6 levels in the final build of the game.
