World 5-4 is the twenty-sixth level of Super Mario 3D Land.
Layout[]
The level opens with Mario (or Luigi) falling into a hole and upon landing, the room gets dark. The level plays like a 2D-platformer, featuring underground qualities of those from Super Mario Bros. The level is made up of several tunnels created by Monty Moles. Mario progresses through the level by simply going right. By being un-powered-up, Mario can fit through several tunnels that he couldn't otherwise. After reaching the Checkpoint of the level, if Mario (or Luigi) has a Fire Flower (which can be found right before here), can light the unlit torch for Coins to appear. He then falls down even further, into a small darker water-filled room with a Rocky Wrench sitting on a Pipe. Past this room is a spiraling tunnel filled with several moles. At the top of this tunnel is a small room with five Warp Pipes, of which the second from the left will lead Mario to the Flagpole. Mario can also attempt to land the golden rock nearby into one of the five. If this feat is accomplished, he will receive a 1-up Mushroom.
Star Medals[]
- Star Medal 1: Using an invisible block found near the beginning of the level, Mario can obtain the first Star Medal.
- Star Medal 2: The second Star Medal is found in a small tunnel not far from the beginning, guarded by several moles.
- Star Medal 3: The final Star Medal can be found at the end of the level. By proceeded past the five warp pipes, Mario can jump above the several numbers of moles and reach the last Star Medal. He then can use a wall-kick jump to come back to the Warp Pipes.
