World 2 is the second world in New Super Mario Bros. It is a desert-themed world. The boss is Mummipokey, who is fought at the castle level.
Layout[]
World 2 is a very mysterious desert. It has orange/brown sand, a yellow sky, and some massive pyramids in the background. It also has palm trees, brown blocks, brick blocks, and orange rope platforms scattered around the map. World 2 is also surrounded by dark blue water.

World 2-A | This level takes place in an oasis, with Koopa Troopas, Koopa Paratroopas, and a Spike Bass that will endlessly jump out of the water to attack Mario or Luigi, no matter how many times it is knocked out. There is a secret exit that unlocks a Warp Cannon to World 5. | |
World 2-Warp Cannon | Similar to the Warp Cannon in World 1, this one takes the player to World 5. The snowy mountains can also be seen in the background. | |
World 2-4 | A desert level with a small cave section and enemies such as Goombas, Koopa Troopas, Piranha Plants, and introduces Paragoombas and Hammer Bros. There is a secret exit that requires Mini Mario/Mini Luigi, to unlock a red Toad House and skip to World 2-6. | |
World 2- | This tower level includes many rotating platforms, ropes, and Dry Bones. Like with all other towers, Bowser Jr. is fought at the end. | |
World 2-5 | A desert level containing the first and only appearance of Blockhoppers and Fire Snakes. | |
World 2-6 | This level takes place in a yellowish/milky gold colored sky. Mario or Luigi ride upon a platform while encountering numerous Piranha Plants riding on platforms. | |
World 2- | This castle level takes place both inside and outside of the castle, prominently featuring Spiked Balls, and outside of the castle, Bullet Bills are introduced as well. The boss of the castle is Mummipokey. Defeating him grants Mario or Luigi access to World 3, but, if the player defeats Mummipokey while in Mini form, Mini Mario/Mini Luigi will take an alternative pathway in which is the only method to unlock World 4. |
