"Ahhhh... Traaagic. Truly traaaagic. My sympathiesss."
—Wisdurm, Energy Hold

Wisdurm (けんじゃイモーヌ Kenja Imōnu?) is a heroic character in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, making her first appearance in the Nerve Cluster as a boss enemy and attacking again in the Energy Hold. She is one of the three Star Cure-holding Sages, making the battle with her mandatory to get the red Star Cure. After she is beaten, she is never seen again.

Appearance[]

Wisdurm has four forms that she shifts between: a tiny butterfly as a true form, tiny, teal Durmite and two large, Durmite variations: teal and pink, holding a magic wand in her tail in the latter due to her handlessness in that form. In the battle, she possessed a Birdo-like species. She revealed her true form as a butterfly after being defeated by Mario & Luigi, only her true form was not shown in the battle.

In the Challenge Node's Gauntlet (this game's equivalent to the Battle Ring from later games), Wisdurm is shown in three more forms: purple large durmite, a green palette swap of that that holds a Magic Rod, and a smaller version of the formermost. The formermost is fought as the first boss, while the latter two are fought as the third. Purple large Durmite and Green large Durmite have their busts as the trophies for Class 1 and Class 3, respectively.

Biography[]

Shortly after she was eaten by Bowser along with the giga-carrot, Wisdurm, as "Durmite" attacks the Mario Bros. and upon her defeat, shrinks into a tiny caterpillar and flees. When they are informed that she is the first Sage, Mario and Luigi set off to retrieve the first Star Cure, pursuing Wisdurm to the Energy Hold where she continues to evade them. Eventually she becomes tired of being chased around by the brothers and confronts them, at which point they explain the situation and ask for the Star Cure. But rather than simply giving it to them, Wisdurm challenges them to a battle over the ownership of the Star Cure. After being defeated, Wisdurm turns into her true form, a butterfly, and drops the Star Cure so the brothers can resume their adventure.

Battle[]

First Battle[]

During this fight, Wisdurm is called "Durmite." Her moveset includes the following:

  • She can stick out a long, stringy tongue that she sweeps across the floor. Mario and Luigi must jump over the tongue without letting any part of their body touch it; if a Mario brother touches the tongue, he will be devoured by Durmite and either spat out or pooped out; in the former scenario, the Bro. who was eaten will fly above his brother, who must not jump, while the latter scenario has the Bro. rolling into the Bro. who escaped the tongue from behind whilst the Bro. who escaped initially must jump over him.
  • She can turn pink and try to tackle a Mario brother, who has to smack her away with a hammer strike. She telegraphs whom she will attack with the following tell:
    • If she is closer to the background, she targets Mario.
    • If she is closer to the foreground, she will target Luigi.
  • After she loses half her health, Durmite will stick a straw into the floor. Mario and Luigi must destroy this straw lest Durmite restores some health. If she is defeated with the straw out, the straw is instantly destroyed before Durmite emits the characteristic explosion stars. Biffidī may also appear by Durmite's side, charging with their spears.

During this fight, Durmite is a Level 8 enemy with 326 hit points, an Attack Power of 34, a Defense of 38, a Speed of 23, and an immunity to status effects except STAT-Down effects.

Second Battle[]

Wisdurm is called as such in her second fight, where she has two forms and four attacks (although one of the attacks can only be used in one form while the other form has the remaining three). She is a Level 18 enemy that has 1610 hit points, a Speed of 52, and immunity to status effects and the KO Hammer's effect when she is fought in the Energy Hold.

Moveset[]

Small Form[]

While she is small, Wisdurm has only one attack, where she licks the ceiling to stick to it and swings at a Mario brother, who has to smack her away with a hammer strike. She has an attack power of 48 and a defense of 39.

Large Form[]

While she is large, Wisdurm has an attack power of 74 and a defense of 80 and the following three attacks, which all depend on her wand:

  • Wisdurm may summon a giant crystal heart that slams down on a Mario brother, whose face will be shown in the heart. That Bro. needs to smash the heart with his hammer. It breaks following several hits or when successfully slamming into its target; the latter outcome results in damage to the target.
  • Wisdurm can also use a similar move to the tongue sweep attack that she had in the first battle, but a Bro. that gets struck will merely get hurt rather than swallowed, due to the weapon being stars instead of Wisdurm's tongue.
  • Wisdurm can also charge at a Bro. as she did when fought the first time, signaling the target by firing a ball of energy at him. This can be countered with the hammer.

The wand that Wisdurm uses to cast the spells that she performs for her attacks has 18 hit points and automatically takes 3 points of damage if attacked directly or 1 point if Wisdurm herself is hit directly. It also automatically loses one hit point when Wisdurm attacks.

Wisdurm's name is a portmanteau of "wisdom" and "Durmite". Durmite was her previous form.

Trivia[]

  • Wisdurm is the only sage in the game who can be rematched in the Gauntlet, where she is fought in classes 1 and 3.
  • Wisdurm's true name can actually first be seen in one of the save entries before she formally introduces herself. When the player saves right after facing Bowser in the Toadley Clinic, the entry mentions that the Mario Bros. must "find Wisdurm in Bowser's body." Before this, her name was never mentioned.
  • In the Prima Guide, she was called a "Wise Pillbo."
