Windblown Wilderness is the third level of World 2 in Yoshi's Island DS, a Cyan Yoshi takes control in this level. The level takes place in a vast canyon with many pits, hence the level's name, there is a lot of wind blowing in various directions and the level makes use of Baby Peach's wind-gliding abilities. There are also Balloons which can be seen gliding through the level, Yoshi can hitch a ride on these, Gusties are also seen flying through the level making for an obstacle as Yoshi soars the skies.
Walkthrough[]
Starting off the level, advance to the right and hop onto the Countdown Platforms to earn some Coins, hop down the Pipe (if you want to), then start running across the long set of Countdown Platforms until you reach the Stork Stop at the end, switch to Baby Peach (if you haven't already) and use the her abilities to glide with the wind (other babies can also be used to reach the upper platforms via the use of the Balloons but this will take heaps longer), glide up to the highest platform and then flutter to the left, there's a Winged Cloud here, hit it with an egg to get the Stars inside. After this, advance to the right and along the main path (don't worry none of the Coins along the Countdown Platforms are Red Coins so you should be fine here), hop across the Countdown Platforms and watch out for any incoming Gusties, toss an egg at the Winged Cloud in the corner to earn the Smiley Flower here, after this drop down the pit (but not all the way down or else you'll die) as there are two Red Coins dangling near the bottom (alongside some Coins) grab these, and then glide the wind back up to the platforms, glide to the top platform (once again none of the Coins along the Countdown Platforms are Red Coins) and then exit through the right.
Once in the next area, tag the Middle Ring and advance onward, there are a few Shy Guys here, you can either beat them or avoid them, there's also a Stork Stop here (but chances are you're still Baby Peach so you won't be needing it at this point), next, glide across the wind gliding past the Countdown Platforms until you reach the upper ledge, there is an exit leading to the next area here but use the next wind gust to glide to the platform with the Pipe (there is a Stork Stop in this pipe), after this, use the next wind gust to glide to the rock platform above and from there, use the next wind gust to reach the top ledges (whilst grabbing the aligned Coins and two Red Coins), each step here has a Shy Guy (making a total of three Shy Guys on each side), atop the left step, there is a Winged Cloud high above, hit it with an egg to reveal a ! Switch, hit the switch to activate the wind, glide with the wind (grabbing the Coins as you go) and reach the topmost ledge to grab the Baby Coin, after this, go back down and climb the right stairs and exit through the right tagging the Middle Ring on your way out through the Flippers.
If you chose to take the lower exit instead, you will end up on a track with several Nipper Plants coming your way, Nipper Spores can also be seen raining from the skies and there is a Piranha Plant and a Windbag (which blows Nipper Spores from the Nipper Dandelion) here. Beat these foes and jump on the body of the dinosaur skeleton to reveal a hidden Winged Cloud, hit it with an egg to get some more Stars, continue along the path and tag the Middle Ring, from here, there is also a Pipe (which leads to another area with a Stork Stop) and then hop across the Countdown Platforms while avoiding the Gusties and reach the right ledge which has a Winged Cloud containing Stars you can either exit by hopping up to the platform to the right or through the left Pipe which leads to an area with a Stork Stop and an Egg Block which can fill your egg supply, either way, you should end up in the next area.
In the next area, drop down or advance to the left (depending on which path you took) and enter the door, you will arrive in a secret area with the Kangaroo, hop into her pouch and hop and glide across the skies collecting Coins as you go (there are no Red Coins here) however this time, there are actual pits which can kill you just the same so avoid these. Once you've made it across, you will reach an upper ledge which contains a Winged Cloud that contains Stars, from here, drop down and advance to the right hopping across the Countdown Platforms (if you took the lower path, the Kangaroo room would be your only way of reaching these) hop across each platform but be careful of the onslaught of Gusties coming your way as they can knock you off the platforms. At the end, there is a long set of Countdown Platforms, run across these (hit the Winged Clouds above, one contains Stars and the other has Coins), collect the Coins along the platform track as the three at the end are Red Coins, a Smiley Flower awaits at the track's end, collect this too. After this, hop down to the main track and watch out for the Windbags perched on the Dino-Skeletons that blow Nipper Spores at you, from here, exit through the right.
In the next area, you will see some Glide Guys that start attacking, beat these guys and glide across the wind and hop along the platforms, there are two blowing wind gusts, blow with the one to the right and grab the Smiley Flower in the upper alcove, one you have this, either blow with the left wind gust or move past the wind gusts to the left and hit the ! Switch, once the switch blocks are activated, hop across them and reach the dirt chunk at the top, toss an egg at the dirt chunk above as a Spring Ball is perched on it, use the Spring Ball to reach the upper platforms, there are two Winged Clouds in this niche (one is in the left corner at the bottom and the other is on the rock platform) one contains Stars while the other has Coins, there is also a stash of Coins in this nook but none of them are red, once done, drop down to the niche's bottom and exit through the Flippers (don't hop up to the top or else you may miss the Red Coins, use the wind to glide up to the top through the Coin lines collecting four Red Coins as you go. In the next area, there is a Egg Block, hit it for some eggs and jump across the Donut Lifts in this area, the top set of Donut Lifts have three Red Coins so be sure to obtain these, above you here are a few Baron Von Zeppelins, the first two are carrying a Grenade and Needlenose respectively and will drop them on you once you get underneath, there is also a Baron Von Zeppelin carrying a 1-Up so be sure to hit this one with an egg, additionally, there are also three Baron Von Zeppelins carrying a box, this will take three egg tosses, once all three Barons are wiped out, the Box drops and can be ground pounded for some bonus Stars, after collecting all the goodies, exit through the right.
In the next area, you can advance to the right, you will come across a Lakitu who tosses some Spiny Eggs at you (you can also enter the Pipe where yet another Stork Stop can be found (ideally, Baby Peach should be used to finish this level but other babies can be used as well by stealing Lakitu's cloud and riding it to the top). Once done, advance to the left and glide the wind upward collecting the Coins and Red Coin in the line, hop to the left ledge and toss an egg at the Winged Cloud above for some more Stars, jump to the right platform and glide the wind through the Coins and Red Coin, glide the wind gusts to the right and glide upward, there is a Smiley Flower here, grab it and toss eggs at the two Winged Clouds here as they contain 1-Ups, below, there is a stash of Coins which you can grab, drop back down to the main paths and glide the leftmost wind and follow the three Coin lines aligned with each gust, there is one Red Coin in each gust grab them and hop to the ledge, use the Lakitu's Cloud waiting here to zoom with the wind and grab the final Red Coin at the end of the Coin trail, after this, jump to the end platform and jump through the GOAL! Ring to finish the level.
Baby Coin Location[]
You will need Baby Peach for this Baby Coin, in the second area, instead of exiting through the right at the lower platforms, glide the wind and fly to the upper platforms until you reach the twin staircases with Shy Guys, climb the left staircase and toss an egg at the Winged Cloud to reveal a ! Switch hit the switch to activate the wind and glide with both wind sets (collecting Coins as you go) to grab the Baby Coin at the top, the wind is only temporary so you will have to be quick about reaching the top ledge.
