Whomp-a-thon is a mini-game appearing in Mario Party DS. It can be played as a 4-player or Duel minigame, the former if all four players land on the same colour space in party mode and its name is selected from the roulette wheel, and the latter if a player lands on a Duel Space and its name is selected from the roulette wheel. Score Scuffle features it as the sixth minigame.
Introduction[]
The characters are shown in a sandpit where they narrowly dodge a Whomp's attack. As the camera pans out on the east, west, and south sides of the pit, the characters move to their starting positions.
Gameplay[]
In this mini-game, players must avoid the Whomps that will shake and fall. In order to win this game, players need to be the last standing or stay in when the thirty seconds are up. The Whomps will shake prior to their fall, giving a player a second to dodge when they attack. Any player smashed by a Whomp will turn into a black puddle on the floor.
In Score Scuffle, a point is granted every 3 centiseconds, and the minigame only ends after 30 seconds or when the Whomps kill everyone.
Ending[]
Any players that avoided getting smashed by the Whomps will be shown celebrating.
Ties[]
If nobody got smashed, everyone celebrates (sulks in the Duel variant). If everyone got smashed, the camera continues looking down over the sandpit as the word "Tie!" is announced.
Controls[]
Players move around using the plus-control pad.
Behind the Scenes[]
Etymology[]
"Whomp-a-thon" is a pun on "marathon."
