The Whispering Woods is the first location which can be explored in Paper Mario: The Origami King.

In Paper Mario: The Origami King[]

When starting the game after falling out of the Koopa Clown Car, Mario falls into a tree where you must press A quickly to shake loose. Once you are able to explore the land, Mario proceeds to find Olivia, and use the Magic Circle near a tree that must be knocked over to proceed through the stage. Toad's BBQ Foodeatery can also be found in the Whispering Woods near the edge of Toad Town.

After Mario shakes lose from the tree, he can head down a path where he will find Olivia. The path contains a hole, which Olivia will promptly warn him about. Olivia throws Mario the Empty Confetti Bag, which allows Mario to grab confetti. Mario can use the confetti to fill in the Not-Bottomless Holes. Mario can then hold A to pull Olivia out of the ground. After Mario pulls Olivia out, he can then use the Magic Circle near the base of a tree. Mario can use the 1000-Fold Arms in order to knock down the tree and gain access into the next area. On the other side of the fallen tree, there is a question block that has a mushroom inside of it.

After Mario crosses into the next area is the 1st time that Mario and Olivia can see Peach's castle along with the Red streamer. Here Olivia mentions Luigi's hat, and points out that it fell where the castle was used to be. After Olivia describes the current scenery with the castle, you can then precede to see the second Save box, along with the second Not-Bottomless Hole.

Mario can stroll along to the next area, where he begins to hear voices coming from the woods. Along one tree in the far back of the map, there is the 3rd Not-bottomless Hole. On the other side of the tree, there is a group of thorns that. Above and below the thorns are the fourth and the fifth Not-bottomless Holes. Above the fourth Not-bottomless hole, the one above the thorns, their is a question block that gives 1000 coins. As Mario heads down the path, he comes across the 6th Not-bottomless hole. Continuing down the path, you can see a second group of thorns at the bottom of the map. There is a chest that is up on a raised edge that holds the No. 1 Collectible Treasure Peach's Castle. Next to the chest is another group of thorns. Behind a tree and next to the second group of thorns is the seventh Not-bottomless hole. Mario heads into a clearing with mainly nothing in it. Mario can climb up a log and come into a raised ledge above the clearing.

There are 6 trees with vines that Mario can pull using A. The first tree, located on the left corner of the grove, yields a 10 coins when it is pulled. The second tree, which is on the right of the first tree causes ten leaves to fall onto the previous clearing. The third tree, which is slightly below and to the right of the second tree does not give you anything. On the right of the third tree there is the 8th Not-bottomless hole. Directly on the right of the 8th Not-bottomless hole is the 4th tree. When its vine is pulled, it yields a Faded Fire Flower. The fifth tree, which is above and to the left of the 4th tree, causes a shriveled flower to fall into a nearby, yet so far unreachable pool of water. The flower comes out new and alive. This vine can be pulled multiple times. The second time a old radio falls into the pool and comes out clean. The third time Birdo falls into the spring, and once again come out alive and healthy. After pulling the vine three times, it disappears and releases a log that rolls to the left. This log can then be used to gain access to the next ledge. Inside of the log are 9 coins. On the right of the fifth tree there is a ten coin, and two 1 coins. The 6th tree is located above and to the left of the fifth tree. It does not give you nothing. On the left of the 6th tree their is the 9th Not-bottomless hole.

Back in the clearing, there now lies 10 leaves, (after you pull the vine of second tree). You can flip over the leaves by hammering them with your hammer. You can only flip two at a time, like a game of memory. If you match two of the leaves you get the item that is on top of it. In the top row from left to right are an 10-coin, confetti bag, and a shriveled mushroom. In the second row, from left to right are a 100-coin, a confetti bag, a heart, (which restores 20 HP), and another heart. In the third row, from left to right are a shriveled mushroom, a 10-coin, and a 100-coin.

Mario can use the log, released from the fifth tree to reach the next ledge. There are 3 coins immediately in front of Mario when he climbs up. There is also the 10th Not-bottomless hole near the bottom of the ledge. Mario can drop off the ledge to land on top of the 3rd group of thorns. He can endure the thorns and walk on top of them until he reaches the chest early mentioned. Inside of the chest is the No. 1 Collectible Treasure Peach's Castle. Up near the top of the screen is a golden ball with a vine stretching down. When pulled the vine breaks, but Mario can hit the tree next to the golden ball. When the tree is hit, it releases a magic circle that can be used to pull the vine. Inside of the ball is confetti, and a Shriveled Seed. The path crosses in front of Mario. On the left it leads to a foggy area. On the right, it leads to the 11th Not-bottomless hole. On the left of the 11th Not-bottomless hole, there is a tree that holds a bag of confetti. On the right of the Not-bottomless hole there is the second question block. Inside is a 1000-coin bag.

Following the left trail, Mario enters an area with a large stump. There are two bushes to the right of the stump. The upper one contains a confetti bag. A path continues onto the right of the bushes. If followed, it brings Mario back into this area from the left. If you go left, it brings you back in from the right. After going into the right or left path three times, Olivia comments about not going anywhere. Olivia tells Mario to sit on the stump. Upon doing so the stump reveals itself to be Ol' Grandsappy. Ol' Grandsappy lifts the fog in order to allow Mario to find something to help him grow again. They tell you to find the Soul Seed, the only thing that can heal Ol' Grandsappy. Mario can now go back left, or onward to the right.

To the right he comes into a curved area that leads to the pond. There is a save box and then the 12th Not-bottomless Hole. Farther down is the 13th Not-bottomless Hole. At the end of the curve is a bush. When you approach it, two Origami Goombas jump out and start a wave battle with Mario. After the bush is the 14th Not-bottomless Hole. The next tree on your level also contains a origami goomba. Underneath the next tree is the 15th Not-bottomless Hole. In the next bush is another origami goomba. In this battle there are two sets of origami goombas in one wave. Farther down the path is the 16th Not-bottomless Hole. Next up is a outstretching ledge over the lake, in which you can throw in any shriveled item (the shriveled seed, shriveled mushroom, or faded fire flower). Throwing in the shriveled seed gives you the soul seed, the item necessary to heal Ol' Grandsappy. When you throw it in, you hear Ol' Grandsappy crying out. If you throw in the shriveled mushroom you get a mushroom. If you throw in the faded fire flower, you get a Fire Flower. Following the path to the left you see the 17th Not-bottomless hole. Up a couple ledges is the 18th Not-bottomless hole. Next to this hole is a tree that has a bag of confetti in it. Farther up on the left of the tree is a chest containing the No.2 Collectible Treasure Mushroom.

When Mario returns to Ol- Grandsappy, he sees that something has put a giant Not-bottomless hole. This is also the 18th Not-bottomless hole. In the background you see 3 Paper Macho Goombas. The three trees to the left of Ol' Grandsappy provide a lot of confetti when hit, making it easy to quickly fix the hole. When the hole is filled in, Ol' Grandsappy face appears again, and you can give him the Soul Seed. When you give it to him, a song starts as he prepares to grow. He grows big, and appears a lot younger then he was previously. He opens up the shrubs so that you can continue onwards towards Peach's Castle.

In the next area there is a path. Above the path is a save block. There are three fences blocking your way, but you can knock down the one farthest up, with you hammer. There is a sign for those who are traveling into the woods that says, "Keep Out! Unless You Want To Stay Forever" To the right is the 19th Not-bottomless hole. Further along there is a Toad stuck in a bush. You can hammer the Toad out of the bush, and then hammer him again until he flattens out. This is the first Toad. It is revealed that King Olly is using folded soldiers to fold Toads. It is also revealed that you can press Y during a battle in order to get Toads to helps you.

Along the path is the a camping grounds. There are three tents in the camping grounds. The first one, in the bottom right, has the 20th Not-bottomless hole next to it. Inside of the tent is a bag of confetti. The second tent is in the upper left of the screen. Inside is the second Toad. Here is a note that you must hammer most Toads in order to unfold them. There is nothing in the third tent, which is to the right of the second one. To the right of the third tent is a tree with a speaker attached. If you hit the tree, the speaker falls abruptly and the music stops. To the right of the tree is a swing with a Toad, folded into a bug, and a origami goomba on it. If you hit the swing, the Toad will fly to an easier place to hit on one of the legs of the swing set. If you destroy the origami goomba, the Toad will hop back onto the swing. Otherwise, he will hid in a corner behind the swing. The 21st Not-bottomless hole is to the right of the swing set, and must be filled in, in order to hit the third question block. When filled, Mario can jump on top of the log, in which there is a 10-coin, and hit the question block, which contains a 1000-coin bag. Up along the path is a bridge with singing steps. There is a bench in which Mario and Olivia can rest. As they rest, Mario's HP is restored.

Continuing along the path, Mario reaches Toad's BBQ Foodeatery. Immediately up to the left is the 22nd Not-bottomless hole. To the bottom of the screen is the 3rd Toad, stuck in a stump. The 4th Toad is located in the tree next to a shed of wood. The Toad was folded into a bug, and Mario must hammer the tree to make it descend down the tree. Then Mario can hammer the bug back into a Toad. To the right is an origami goomba, Up above this goomba is the 23rd Not-bottomless hole. Above the table is a picnic area, with two picnic tables that each have a 100-coin on top. The left table has an origami goomba, along with the 4th Toad underneath one of its' chairs. On the right table is the 5th Toad transformed into an egg. Down below the picnic area is the 6th Toad trapped in the bush. Up to the right is a log cabin with another speaker that can be knocked down. There is a hidden area off the cabin's porch's left side. That has the 7th Toad and a 10-coin. The cabin has a locked door. The Toad you must find to unlock it is in Toad Town. On the porch, there are 4 pots. Only three of the pots have flowers in them. If you hit the third one, left to right, and also the one with not flowers, a flower will pop out. If you hit the flower you will find the 8th Toad. On the right of the porch is another shed of wood, with the 9th Toad stuck in the wood. Part of the wood shed is destroyed by the 24th and last Not-bottomless hole. Upon filling it in, you can reach a hidden area behind the wood shed, with the 4th question block, which contains 100 coins. To the right of the shed is a patch of dirt that has the 5th question block above it. The block contains a bag of confetti. Continuing down the path is the exit of Toad's BBQ Foodeatery. It contains a sign which says, "Firing it up so you can wolf it down... Welcome to Toad's BBQ Foodeatery! (All firewood used is happy to burn.) Farther down the path is another sign that says, "Toad Town-->." At the end of the path is the beginning of Toad Town.
