Whirly Gates are an object in Yoshi's New Island.
Description[]
Whirly Gates replace Morph Bubbles from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island DS. Upon entering a Whirly Gate, a Yoshi goes into a mini course separate from the main level and transforms into one of six vehicles indicated by the icon on the Whirly Gate, either a Mine-Cart, a Hot-Air Balloon, a Jackhammer, a Helicopter, a Submarine, or a Bobsled. All vehicle transformations are confined to an area within a Whirly Gate, not the main main level. Sometimes these areas are uses to progress through the level while others take a Yoshi back to the same room.
In a Whirly Gate's course, the Yoshi has to navigate through enemies and obstacles within a timer, although clocks can be collected to replenish time. At the end of the section are rainbow rings that must be reached, turning the Yoshi to his normal form, similarly to Yoshi Blocks from previous Yoshi's Island games, and returning him to the main level. These rings replace the Yoshi Blocks from prior entries. If a Yoshi does not reach the goal on time, he is forced back to the entrance of the Whirly Gate, although he can keep every item collected in these segments.
