Which Wiggler? is a minigame which first appears in Super Mario 64 DS and returns in New Super Mario Bros.. It can be played in both single-player and multiplayer.

Layout[]

The minigame is shown from an overhead view of leaves where there are Wigglers. One Wiggler is on the top screen while a few are shown on the Touch Screen. The Wigglers all look very similar, with the only difference in their appearance being the orange markings on their body segments.

Gameplay[]

In each level, the player must tap the Wiggler on the Touch Screen with the exact same appearance as the one on the upper screen. If the correct Wiggler is selected, five seconds are added to the time limit, and the next level starts. The timer starts at 20 seconds and can go up to 50. If the player picks the wrong Wiggler, it turns red and angry, moves faster, and subtracts 10 seconds from the timer (or wakes up if it had been asleep). The player cannot select a Wiggler for three seconds.

For the first three levels, the Wigglers are all asleep. Starting with level 4, the Wigglers are awake and shown to be moving around. If the player the wrong Wiggler is selected too many times or the time limit runs out, it is a Game Over.

In New Super Mario Bros. multiplayer, the timer always starts at 30 seconds, and no additional time is added or removed. Instead, a player either earns or loses a point depending on whether they selected the correct Wiggler or not. Once the timer reaches zero, whoever has the most points by then is the winner.

In-game instructions[]

"Touch the Wiggler on the Touch Screen that matches the one on the top screen. Choose carefully, though; he has a terrible temper."

Trivia[]

  • The background music is the same as the theme that plays when approaching a sleeping Piranha Plant in the main Adventure mode of Super Mario 64 DS.
