The Weeping Trooper is an enemy from Mario & Luigi: Brothership. They are robots encountered in the Soli-Tree.
Description[]
Weeping Troopers are blue with spheroidal bodies. Their eyes are yellow with red rims, and their mouth is rectangular with white square teeth, resembling a grid. A Weeping Trooper has three forms, with two on the ground and one in the air. On the ground, it has thin limbs and can either have arms ending in jack plug-esque spears or clawed hands; in the former case, the enemy has a third jack plug-esque spear on the top of its body, and in the latter case, its hands carry rings used as boomerangs. The enemy's aerial form is legless with the same arms as the spikeless grounded form, but holding nothing, and a rocket booster where the legs were supports it. The spiked grounded form is the form that is used in the field.
Each form corresponds to a different variant of Mettozokettohei, barring the based version and the Ringuzokettohei.
Behaviour[]
In the field, Weeping Troopers prowl their territory like most enemies, and getting too close to them provokes them into charging the intruder. In their aggroed state, Weeping Troopers attack by stabbing with their spear arms and slowly advancing on their prey.
Combat[]
In combat, Weeping Troopers attack differently based on what form they are in. In their grounded state with spikes, Weeping Troopers attack by stabbing their spear arms forward. The first wave hits nothing, but must be remembered as a tell, as the second wave is when the Weeping Trooper attacks for real. For every stab the Weeping Trooper does into the ground with an arm during the first wave, it will use that same arm to stab the target in the second wave. If the Weeping Trooper stabbed upward, it will just miss. The stabs in the second wave that parallel those that went into the ground during the first wave must be avoided by jumping. A Weeping Trooper in this state can counter jump-based attacks.
If it is on the ground but has no spikes, the Weeping Trooper throws boomerangs that must be jumped over. These boomerangs can weaken their target's defense if they connect. When a boomerang is jumped, it will target the opposite Bro., and when the second Bro. jumpes, the Weeping Trooper takes a hit to the face, taking damage. Since it lacks spikes, the Weeping Trooper can be hit by any attack.
In its aerial form, the Weeping Trooper attacks by slamming into the Bros. from above. The Bros. have to repel it with their hammers twice. The aerial form is immune to ground-hugging moves.
A slain Weeping Trooper will yield 1,634 experience, 230 coins, and possibly an Ultra Nut.
A Weeping Trooper may change stances mid-battle, and enemies that may aid it include Reclusiffs and Seedlusas.
Trivia[]
- The way that Weeping Troopers change their stances is similar to a Flibbee from Mario & Luigi: Dream Team; however, the Weeping Troopers' stances are independent of attacks brought upon them.
- The Weeping Trooper's stances seem to be based on the Togezokettohei, Būmeranzokettohei, and Jettozokettohei.
- Before retreating, sometimes one of the Zok Troopers inside of a weeping trooper who retreat following their defeat will throw a mushroom to one of the brothers, possibly indicating the troopers are trapped inside the casing and/or under mind control and are thankful for being broken out.
- Despite their presence in the monster mob that Reclusa summons near the top of the Soli-Tree, Weeping Troopers are not actually fought directly. They do, however, attack the Bros. before Bowser arrives.
