A Water Bubble (also called a Water Ball or a Water Globe) is a type of giant bubble first found in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. They are floating bubbles commonly found in sky areas that are large enough to be swam in. Most Water Bubbles are perfectly still but some are also seen moving around in various directions, they can also come in various different shapes and sizes with the most common being circular however there are some that are oval-shaped as well either horizontally or vertically. Water Bubbles commonly serve as a means for crossing the open skies, when enemies enter the Water Bubbles, they slow down as they travel/descend into one.

Water Bubble Swim

Water Bubbles are first seen in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, in this game, they appear in World 7-2 and can be swam in. Mario can use the Water Bubbles to swim to higher platforms or cross the open skies. Swimming in a Water Bubble is like swimming in regular water as Mario must constantly bob upward to avoid descending, Penguin Mario has more control when swimming in the Water Bubbles just as he does with regular water and can also swim faster in them. Bullet Bills that fly into a Water Bubble also fly slower. Water Bubbles can come in either circular or oval forms and while most are motionless, some are also seen move around requiring some timing to jump into the moving Water Bubbles.

Water Bubbles return in New Super Mario Bros. U as well as New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (they do not reappear in New Super Luigi U). Here, they can be found in the Meringue Clouds level A Quick Dip in the Sky. They are the main key to progressing through the vertical level, just as before, Water Bubbles can come in circular or oval forms however unlike last time, they are seen moving around more frequently and in more directions, additionally, Water Bubbles can also vary in sizes as well, other enemies such as Piranha Plants, Fuzzies, and Mega Fuzzies can also enter Water Bubbles and slow down whenever entering. Other than that, they function identically to how they do in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
