Mario Party

Verbal Assault is a 1-vs.-3 Mic mini-game in Mario Party 6.

Gameplay[]

Every team member controls their own small walker equipped with a rapid-fire cannon and two large shields on its front. The solo character controls a large battle craft.

The solo player can speak into the Mic (or select from a blue window if the Mic option is turned off) to have their battle craft perform different attacks, and their objective is to hit each team member three times. Meanwhile, each teammate has to avoid the battle craft's attacks while returning fire with their walkers' cannons. Each team member has their own health meter on the bottom part of the screen, representing how many hits their walker can endure. A walker becomes briefly invincible whenever it takes damage, allowing its user to reposition themselves in preparation of the solo character's next attack. The first two times a walker is hit, one of its shields breaks off, and the third and final hit destroys the walker.

For its attacks, the battle craft can use a few different weapons. One attack involves the battle craft using flamethrowers to sweep the area in front it, although the short range of the flamethrowers allow the team members to dodge it by simply staying away from the battle craft. Another attack the battle craft can use is firing six missiles in a spread formation. The team players can move between the missiles to avoid them, which is easier if they are far away from the battle craft. Another attack the battle craft can use launching several bombs from a hatch on its top, and the bombs hit random areas of the road, exploding into pillars of fire that linger briefly. Lastly, the battle craft can fire two large beams straight down, and the teammates can avoid it by either staying to the sides of the road or between the lasers.

The object for each team member is to hit the battle craft with multiple small shots. While the battle craft can move left and right, its large size prevents it from being able to dodge most shots. The battle craft does not have a corresponding health meter, although its condition can instead be estimated by looking at the green capsules near the cockpit, which fade to red and pop off the air as the machine takes damage.

Whichever side defeats the opposing side is ranked the winner. If neither side is eliminated within five minutes, the minigame ends in a tie.

Ending[]

Every character is seen outside their machines, with any broken one emitting smoke in the background, and the characters each perform their victory or defeat animations, depending on whether they won or lost. If the minigame ends in a tie, the characters each perform their losing animation.

Controls[]

Solo[]

  • "Fire": Use flamethrowers
  • "Missile": Fire six missiles
  • "Drop bombs": Drop multiple bombs
  • "Laser": Fire two large laser beams.

These appear in the Star Bank as hints, so they cannot be used if the Mic mode is turned off:

  • "Bullet Bill": A Bullet Bill is launched from the battle craft. It moves slowly, but it homes in on an opponent.
  • "Goomba": Multiple Goombas jump out of the battle craft and roll straight forward.

If the Mic does not recognize a command, the battle craft displays an animation of gears being dropped while the character on board looks distressed. After a while, the gears disappear.

Team[]

  • Control Stick: Move
  • A Button: Shoot

Flavor text[]

  • Rules: One player commands a heavily armed battle craft. The other three have to destroy it!
  • Advice 1: As the battle craft takes damage, green capsules will break away.
  • Advice 2: Wait until the battle craft finishes an attack before saying another order into the Mic.

Trivia[]

  • The minigame's title refers to the phrase "verbal abuse," in which a person verbally abuses their opponent.
  • This is the only Mic minigame not to use "Jazzy" as its background music.
