Vancouver Velocity is a course from Mario Kart Tour that later appears in the Booster Course Pass in the Nintendo Switch version of Mario Kart 8. Hence its name, it occurs in Vancouver, a city in Canada on the west coast and close to the border between Canada and the United States of America.

Layout[]

This page covers the course's basic layout and the route taken in the Switch version of Mario Kart 8. For the individual layouts from Mario Kart Tour, see Vancouver Velocity 1, Vancouver Velocity 2, and Vancouver Velocity 3.

Vancouver Velocity's starting line inhabits a straight road that goes east to west, around halfway between the western terminus and an intersection to the east, or 30% from west to east. The straightaway's eastern terminus is a bend that curves to the north (to the left if you approach from the west).

Close to the junction a bit to the east of the middle is the Vancouver Olympics cauldron; a road can be seen going southeast from the main road under the cauldron. A dirt road branches off that, heading due south and leading into a winding wooden bridge through a forest that inhabits the south and southwest areas of the map. A river separates the forest from the main city and goes under the aforementioned dirt road.

Continuing southeast on the road that branches off the main road leads to a turn going due east, leading to a winding road going through Stanley Park, which inhabits the northeast area of the map. This ends in a dead-end that serves as the landing spot for a cannon.

The winding road whose southeastern end marks the starting straightaway's eastern end has a tunnel on the southeastern half and winds through several shops on the northwestern half, ending just to the east of a stadium; there is an intersection here: the south path leads back down the curving road, while the east path leads to a dead end (and is subsequently ignored in Mario Kart Tour) and the west path leads into the Rogers Arena, a stadium containing an ice rink. The west exit leads onto another winding road that goes through the northwestern area; this area is called "Jack Poole Plaza." There is a southwestern exit that the racers ignore in Mario Kart Tour.

Vancouver Velocity 1 takes the road going due south from the junction between the ends of the straightaway and starts facing east. Vancouver Velocity 2 starts facing west, going through the winding road through Jack Poole Plaza and placing a cannon in the Rogers Arena; racers who go through this cannon will be launched towards the dead-end of Stanley Park's winding dirt path. Vancouver Velocity 3 starts facing east, leading to the winding road through the tunnel and shops and going through the Rogers Arena, though the cannon is removed due to Stanley Park not being visited.

Mario Kart 8[]

As with the other city courses, the layout of Vancouver Velocity changes lap by lap.

Lap 1[]

The starting lap follows the first layout, which visited the forest to the south of the city. Racers start on a street next to the Vancouver Convention Centre, with the Vancouver olympics cauldron up ahead on the right. Following a 90-degree right turn beneath the Olympics cauldron, they enter the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, with a concessions building on the left and the Capilano Suspension Bridge itself on the right. The concessions building is inaccessible, but the racers make a right turn onto the bridge itself and must make an S-curve in Anti-gravity. Following the S-bend, the racers will come across a Glide Ramp that they must use to fly over the water back to the mainland. Upon their arrival, the racers must turn right. (A grassy shortcut can be found here.) This leads them back to the starting line and initiates lap 2.

Lap 2[]

The second lap follows the second layout, which visited the park to the Stanley Park, which lies at the far east of the city. When the racers get to the Vancouver Olympics cauldron, they must make a 45-degree right turn beneath the cauldron, followed by a slight left. This leads them into Stanley Park near the Lost Lagoon. Plunging too deep into the lake causes racers to be counted as out-of-bounds, but a skilled racer can use the lake for an underwater shortcut. After a few bends along a dirt road that follows the lagoon's shore, the course leads to a glider cannon, which the racers use to make their way into the Rogers Arena, a stadium that contains an ice rink where a few skaters can be found. The racers will get hurt if they and the skaters collide, and the skaters may have item boxes or coins on their tail. Afterwards, the racers exit the stadium and go through the Jack Poole Plaza. This is followed by a left reverse curve that leads to the starting line.

Lap 3[]

The final lap follows the third layout. The racers go straight ahead and through the Massey Tunnel which takes them around a wide left turn and through the Vancouver Public Library and down the library's Central Branch. This area is lined with stores. After this section, the racers make a left turn to the Rogers Arena, where the skaters can be found. Here, Shy Guys are dancing on the central pedestal. The rest of the track is Vancouver Velocity 2 in reverse as the racers make their way back to the starting line. After the race is completed, they follow the full layout on the results screen.
