"Two Bums From Brooklyn" is the fifty-eighth live-action segment of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. It is paired with the animated episode "Mario of the Deep."

Plot[]

Mario gets off the phone with the baseball scout Tommy Lasagna and is excited that he or Luigi will be recruited into the new Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team. Mario grabs up some of Luigi's meatballs and pretends to be a pitcher. After Mario's game, Luigi grabs a bat and pretends he's a batter. Mario mockingly hits him with a meatball saying, he's out but Luigi argues his hit was over the fence. There's a ring of the doorbell and Tommy Lasagna enters with a meatball in his mouth.

The Marios ask Tommy Lasagna which of them he's here to recruit but he claims neither one. Nevertheless he lets the Mario Brothers show him their stuff and both of them prove to be sorely inadequate at the game.

However, Tommy says that he really came for the meatballs since he's opening a restaurant. Unfortunately, when he tastes one he hates it. Still, he takes them with him to use as baseballs and gives the Marios jobs as peanut vendors.

Trivia/Goofs[]

  • Tommy Lasagna claims his speed radar says, "Don't Give Up Your Day Job" but it really reads, "Keep the Day Job."
  • Though Tommy Lasagna ends up with a meatball in his mouth before entering the Marios' basement, it's never explained how, Luigi claims he hit it into the guy's mouth but he never hit anything with his makeshift baseball bat.
