- "Step right up...if you're ready to get...toasted."
- —Tryclyde, Super Mario Advance
Tryclyde, alternatively spelled Triclyde, is a three-headed serpent, whose primary weapon is breathing balls of fire. He first appears in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and its Western conversion Super Mario Bros. 2, as a boss sent by Wart to impede Mario's progress.
Biography[]
Tryclyde was once an outsider. Tryclyde impressed Wart with his "cunning brain and offensive capabilities" and Wart recruited him.[1]
In Super Mario series[]
Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic / Super Mario Bros. 2[]
Tryclyde is the second boss, and is fought at the end of World 2-3. Tryclyde stands in place and his heads spit fireballs that moves diagonally downwards. The player can use the Mushroom Blocks to hit him. After three hits, Tryclyde is defeated allowing him to access the door that leads to another level. He is fought once again at the end of World 6-3.
Super Mario Advance[]
Tryclyde makes a reappearance, having almost the same role as in the game's original version. Tryclyde's attacks remain the same, including his weakness, although like the other bosses, Tryclyde was given a few lines of voice acting. Tryclyde is no longer fought a second time because the second battle against Mouser was moved from World 3-3 to World 6-3 in favor of Robirdo, who had been introduced as the boss of the former level.
In Super Mario Bros. & Friends: When I Grow Up[]
Tryclyde is shown in the "Zoo Keeper" coloring page, poking its head out from the left while Mario feeds Birdo.
In NES Remix 2[]
Stage 7-2 of the Super Mario Bros. 2 challenges features a re-enactment of Tryclyde's first boss fight at World 2-3 in Super Mario Bros. 2. The object is for Toad, whom the character must play throughout Stage 7, to defeat Tryclyde by throwing three Mushroom Blocks at him, just like in the original game.
In other media[]
The Super Mario Bros. Super Show[]
Tryclyde appears in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show as a member of the Koopa Pack.
