Mario & Luigi

Trunkle is a boss who appears in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and its Nintendo 3DS remake Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. He was first seen at the end of Teehee Valley about to attack Princess Peach.

Physical description[]

Trunkle appears to be an odd, tree-like creature that is actually made of rock. His eyes are black, and his mouth is full of square teeth. Shrinking him causes a berry to be found in his mouth.

Battle[]

In battle, Trunkle attacks mainly by rolling his fists around and sending rocks at either Mario or Luigi. He can also use a suction attack that brings up Gritty Goombas, Mushrooms, and Poison Mushrooms to attack Mario and Luigi. After that attack, Trunkle will heal himself. After taking some damage, Trunkle splits into four little Trunkles that attack by rolling into Mario and Luigi or burrowing underground and punching them. The suction attack must be avoided by jumping over the Gritty Goomba monsters and the Poison Mushrooms, while the rolling charge must be blocked by jumping over the monster's ball form. The other attacks must be blocked via hammers.

Strategy[]

This battle is simple as Mario and Luigi should solely focus on attacking the body. Attacking the head of Trunkle will barely do anything to the boss at all. Once Trunkle splits into four smaller ones, the real Trunkle can be spotted as his mouth will open revealing a shining light (a berry) before they shuffle. It should also be noted that Trunkle's defense drastically drops once he is in his smaller form, so, when one the real one is spotted, introduce the strongest Bros. Moves to it.

Trivia[]

  • If the Bros. visit the Little Fungitown entrance before Peach arrives in the Beanbean Kingdom, they can see Trunkle sleeping (with two Toads freaking out behind him), and thus cannot advance to Little Fungitown earlier than they should. In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, he can't be seen sleeping as you don't get the Super Hammer until after Peach arrives in the kingdom. The area can still be visited while she is being held hostage by the Gritty Goombas but there will be nothing there as well as no elevator either.
