Trouter is a fish enemy which first appears in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and its Western conversion Super Mario Bros. 2.
Profile[]
Physical description[]
A Trouter is a red fish with yellow dorsal and tail fins. A Trouter also has a yellow ring-like pattern around its eyes.
Behavior[]
A Trouter jumps up and down certain waterfalls. One of the playable characters—Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, or Toad—can stand on a Trouter to reach higher areas, although they risk being carried down a waterfall in doing so. If a playable character touches a Trouter, they take damage.
In The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, Trouters are more vicious, somewhat like piranha fish, and have their own pair of sharp teeth.
In Super Mario Bros. 2[]
Trouters are first encountered in World 1. Trouters, like other enemies, can be temporarily frozen using a Stop Watch.
In Super Mario Bros. & Friends: When I Grow Up[]
A Trouter makes a cameo appearance in the Marine Biologist page, and is mentioned in the profile for the page.
In other media[]
The Super Mario Bros. Super Show![]
Trouters appear in several episodes.
