- This article is about the move. For the Mario & Sonic series Olympic event, see Triple Jump (event). For the Mario Party 5 minigame, see Triple Jump (minigame).
The triple jump is a move that Mario and other characters can perform in some games. It involves the character performing three jumps in a row, takes players much higher and often with flips. Its use in most of its appearances is as a method of reaching high or distant ledges, and it is most often performed using the A-button three times while running; the necessary speed varies in each game. The first appearance of the jump, along with other moves such as the Long Jump and Backflip, is in Super Mario 64.
All five mainstream 3D Mario games, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Super Mario Odyssey contain the move, as well as Super Mario 64 DS, and all playable characters in these games can perform it. The same is true of the only 2D platformers to have it, New Super Mario Bros., New Super Mario Bros. Wii, New Super Mario Bros. 2, New Super Mario Bros. U, and New Super Luigi U.
In Super Mario 64, collecting all 120 Power Stars and meeting Yoshi on the Castle roof unlocks a special triple jump, whose differences to the normal jump are invincibility during the third jump and a golden sparkle effect. In the same game, a triple jump is one of two ways by which Mario can start flying with the Wing Cap.
