Mario & Luigi

A Treevil is an enemy in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and its remake Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey. These enemies make their home in the Dimble Wood area.

Profile[]

Physical description[]

Treevils is a walking tree enemy that appears in two forms, one with sad glowing blue eyes and one with malicious red eyes; the latter type is not only stronger but also has a berry on its branches.

Behavior[]

A Treevil attacks by throwing twigs at the character. If it is battling Bowser, the Treevil either lobs the twig high into the air, which Bowser can counter using his shell, or throws the twig so that it bounces along the ground, forcing Bowser to counter it with a punch. If a Treevil has a berry, Bowser can inhale it using his Vacuum attack to restore 20 HP. Treevils attack Mario and Luigi in the same way, except the Mario Bros. can counter the twigs with their hammers.

Bowser battling Treevils in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story

Treevils are enemies encountered in Dimble Wood. In addition, a Treevil is used in a tutorial by Broque Monsieur that explains how to acquire Blitties. Bowser can use the Vacuum Block on a Treevil for the first time to obtain a Blitty.

After Bowser frees his Goomba corps in Dimble Wood, a Fawfulcopter comes to inform Bowser that Fawful has kidnapped his other minions before releasing two Treevils with berries in an attempt to slow Bowser down from reaching his castle. As such, Treevils are one of the few enemies that are mandatory for Bowser to fight, even though the purpose of the battle is to teach him about Brawl Attacks.

Treevils are a Level 14 enemy with 95 hit points. With no berry in their branches, the enemies have an ttack power of 46, a defense of 36, and a speed of 18, with an experience drop of 30 and an item drop of 8 coins, a Hot Drumstick in 1 in 20 drops, and a Syrup Jar in 1 in 4 drops. If it has a berry in its branches, the Treevil has an attack power of 52, a defense of 45, and a speed of 24, and the experience drop is raised to 35, but the item drop is the same. Both versions take double damage from fire and have double the regular chances of suffering the Burn effect.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey[]

Treevils do not chase Mario and Luigi in the overworld like in the original version. A Treevil with a berry and a Treevil without one are always encountered together.

Treevils, specifically the type with berries, are also enemies in the Bowser Jr.'s Journey campaign. They are ranged troopers, and are weak to fire attacks from Fire Bros. and Fire Stalking Piranha Plants. Their Special Skill is Rain of Pain.

Behind the scenes[]

Etymology[]

Treevil's name is a portmanteau of "tree" and "evil."
