"Too Hot to Handle" is the twenty-fourth animated episode of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. It is paired with the live-action segment "Time Out Luigi."
Plot[]
Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Toad arrive in Lava Land on the island of Waki-Waki to find the Fire God, who agreed to help rid the Mushroom Kingdom of King Koopa. At first, things are peaceful enough but the volcano starts to act up and the Princess is nearly killed.
Inside the volcano, King Koopa reveals that everything is going to plan. He and Fryguy have captured the real Fire God and have taken over control of the volcano. Imitating the Fire God, King Koopa demands that the Princess be sacrificed to him at sundown or the island will be destroyed. In a rare incident Mario recognizes the voice as King Koopa and warns the islanders not to do as he says, but the islanders don't listen. The Marios and Toad are thrown into a pit and the Princess is taken to the mouth of the volcano. While the Marios manage to escape the pit, King Koopa sees their escape and sends out his Shy Guy henchmen to stop the Marios from saving the Princess.
The islanders take the Princess to the mouth of the volcano but don't throw her in since it was demanded that she would be thrown in at sundown. King Koopa is upset over the fact that he didn't really want for them to wait till sundown. The Marios defeat the Shy Guys sent after them and continue their pursuit. King Koopa claims it to be sundown now and has the Islanders throw the Princess in. With the Princess in his possession King Koopa activates his Lava Machine and causes the volcano to erupt. The Marios barely manage to escape by climbing onto a statue of the Fire God. They accidentally open a secret passage into the volcano and find the piping system that was used to make the fake eruption. Following the pipes they find Koopa's Lava Machine.
Toad goes to distract King Koopa while the Marios stop up the pipes from the Lava Machine. Toad gets captured but not before the machine is sabotaged. Fryguy explains the situation to King Koopa who is upset over not being able to destroy the island but will settle for having the Princess as his prisoner. Mario and Luigi hide in Koopa's Fireproof Lava Boat and prevent Koopa from entering it. They then retrieve the Princess just before the Lava Machine bursts. After saving Toad, the group escapes on the raft. King Koopa manages to escape the lava by going through a hawk warp zone but Fryguy is left on his own.
After the volcano settles down, the Fire God is freed and invites the Marios to a spaghetti luau, where Fryguy is the oven.
Trivia/Goofs[]
- Fryguy is shown to be afraid of lava even though he's a fire being and can float.
- This is the first appearance of the Hawkmouth warp zone.
- In one scene Luigi's eyes are closed, when he blinks, they open then remain closed again.
