Tom Nook is a character from the Animal Crossing series. He has made a few minor appearances in the Mario franchise and related media, the earliest instance of this being in Super Smash Bros. Melee, shortly after making his overall debut in the Nintendo 64 game Dōbutsu no Mori.
Profile[]
Physical description[]
Tom Nook is a raccoon with light brown fur. His eyes are generally partway closed, giving him a lazy facial expression, something further contributed to by the dark brown markings around Tom Nook's eyes. The tip of Tom Nook's ears as well as his hands and feet are also dark brown. Tom Nook has a long nose and no visible mouth, and his nose moves whenever he speaks.
Tom Nook's clothing has varied throughout his appearances. In the first three Animal Crossing games, while working at Nook's Cranny, Tom Nook wears a dark purple covering around his waist that initially depicted a light purple kanji ten (店), which translates to "shop," but as of Animal Crossing: Wild World, this was changed to the Animal Crossing leaf symbol, also light purple. At Nookington's, Tom Nook wears only a dark purple business suit with a white undershirt and red tie. While at Nook 'n' Go, Tom Nook wears a white uniform and a small, white hat, both with a blue and orange-striped pattern. At Nookway, Tom Nook wears a supermarket apron going partway down his legs, with the pink Animal Crossing leaf and dark green Japanese text being depicted on the front.
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Tom Nook was given another outfit while working at Nook's Homes shows him in green vest, as well as the white undershirt and red necktie from his Nookington's design, and long, gray pants. This would become his standard outfit in recurring appearances, including within Mario games.
Personality[]
Tom Nook is a shopkeeper who has run several shops throughout his appearances.
In Super Smash Bros. series[]
Super Smash Bros. Melee[]
Tom Nook is featured as a trophy. It depicts his Nook's Cranny outfit with the kanji.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]

Tom Nook makes a reappearance as a trophy, which can be unlocked by collecting at least 1,000 coins during Coin Matches. He is also featured in his own sticker, which depicts the Animal Crossing: Wild World artwork of Tom Nook in his Nook's Cranny outfit. Tom Nook appears in the Timmy and Tommy trophy alongside the twins, although the trophy description does not mention him.
Tom Nook is one of several Animal Crossing characters to sometimes appear in the background of the Smashville stage. Here, Tom Nook's clothing varies at random between either his Nook's Cranny, Nookington's, Nook 'n' Go, or his Nookway outfit.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U[]

Tom Nook's appearance during Villager's Final Smash, Dream Home, in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Tom Nook has his own trophy in both games, although the trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS shows Tom Nook wearing his Nook's Homes outfit while the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U equivalent shows Tom Nook wearing his Nookington's outfit. The trophy descriptions are similar between both games, but slightly differ to reflect which outfit Tom Nook is wearing. In both games, the description for Tom Nook's trophy differs between the NTSC and PAL regions, like most other trophies.
Tom Nook is featured in Villager's Final Smash, Dream Home, along with Timmy and Tommy, in which they are paid by Villager to build a house around an opponent, which then explodes shortly afterward, damaging the opponent as well as sending Tom Nook, Timmy, and Tommy flying off the stage.
In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Tom Nook returns as a possible background character within the Smashville stage. He similarly makes another stage cameo in the background of Town and City, during the town portion.
Tom Nook makes a cameo appearance in the E3 2013 trailer, when an envelope with an invitation drops onto the ground for Villager.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]
Tom Nook is featured as two different Spirits, one depicting his Nook's Cranny outfit and another depicting his Nookington's outfit; the latter is even titled Tom Nook (Nookington's) to reflect this difference. Tom Nook retains his role in Villager's Final Smash and in the background of the stages Smashville and Town and City. Tom Nook now also appears during Isabelle's Final Smash, Dream Town Hall, which is similar to Villager's Dream Home, except Tom Nook, Timmy, and Tommy construct the Town Hall around an opponent before it explodes.
In Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[]
Tom Nook is one of several Animal Crossing characters to appear in the background for the Animal Crossing course, initially introduced in the Wii U version's Animal Crossing x Mario Kart 8 downloadable pack. Here, Tom Nook can always be seen wearing his Nook's Cranny outfit.
In Super Mario Maker[]

Tom Nook is one of the characters featured as a Mystery Mushroom costume. It can be unlocked by either scanning a Tom Nook amiibo or at random from completing the 100 Mario Challenge on Expert or Super Expert setting. Like the amiibo, Tom Nook is depicted with his Nook's Homes outfit.
In Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World[]
Tom Nook can be unlocked as a pattern if the player scans a Tom Nook amiibo. The pattern gives a Yoshi the colors of Tom Nook and his Nook's Home outfit.
In WarioWare Gold[]

If the player scans a Tom Nook amiibo in Wario's amiibo Sketch, Wario does a crude drawing of Tom Nook. It depicts Tom Nook wearing his Nook's Homes outfit, just like the amiibo itself.
