Toad Town is the capital of the Mushroom Kingdom and is a recurring location in the Mario series. While in many games, the appearance changes with each release. This town serves as the location before Princess Peach's Castle. Since it's debut, Toad Town has been a recurring location throughout the series.
Toad Town appears in Super Mario Galaxy as the first area seen in the game, where the Star Festival was taken place. Mario arrives at Toad Town after Peach invites him to the Castle for some cake, while exploring Toad Town, Mario can pick up Star Bits, talk to Toads, and more. Toad Town is depicted with several houses, shops, and a fountain. Once Mario reaches the center of Toad Town, Bowser and his fleet of Airships arrive launching a full-scale attack on the town damaging several buildings and freezing the Toads in Item Crystals, after Princess Peach's Castle is hoisted into space (with Mario), Toad Town isn't seen again until the end of the game. After the Universe is restored, Toad Town can be seen in an undamaged state and several characters including Mario, Peach, Bowser, Luigi, Guppy, a Gearmo, several Bees, Bowser Jr., an Electrogoomba, a Pink Electrogoomba, Queen Bee, Dino Piranha, 4 Pumpkinhead Goombas, Cheep-Cheeps, and several Toads are seen around the Mushroom Kingdom on peaceful terms celebrating the Universe's restoration.
The beginning of Super Mario Galaxy 2 takes place near Toad Town. Part of it is also shown when Bowser attacks the Kingdom however, Toad Town's appearance in this game is very minor and there is no Purple Coin mission this time.

In Paper Mario, Toad Town serves as the hub of all activity. With various inhabitants, Toad Town is the entrance to Princess Peach's castle. After the defeat of each boss, Mario returns to Toad Town to discover it in a type of turmoil which leads into the next Chapter.
Toad Town is back in Paper Mario: The Origami King, where it is the main hub in the game just as it was in Paper Mario. It is once again situated south of Peach's Castle and even connects to it. Toad Town is also larger in this game than in previous games consisting of more houses, shops, and even cafés and restaurants.
In the beginning of the game, the town is supposed to be the site of the Origami Festival, and Mario and Luigi are invited there by Princess Peach to celebrate it. However when they arrive, they see the area overrun by monstrous Paper Macho Goombas which even go far as eating parts of the town leaving large holes, the threat was so great that the town was evacuated. The perpetrator for the chaos is none of than King Olly who proceeds to take over the Mushroom Kingdom, the Toad Town is repopulated as Mario progresses throughout his adventure and rescues the folded-up Toads. After defeating King Olly and saving the Mushroom Kingdom, the Origami Festival is held in Toad Town and many characters Mario met through his adventure are seen celebrating the party.
In Mario & Luigi series[]
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga[]
A small section of Toad Town called Toad Town Square appears in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, it is where Mario goes after discovering that Peach's voice is missing to shove off with Bowser for the Beanbean Kingdom via the Koopa Cruiser. Various Toads are seen around the area and Luigi is seen waving goodbye to Mario before coming along on the adventure as well, Toad Town Square is a small one-time area and is never visited again after Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and the Turtle Tribe leave for the Beanbean Kingdom. In the remake, the area was renamed to Peach's Castle suggesting that the square is right on the Castle's porch.
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time[]
Toad Town is seen in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. In the game, the Toads are living peacefully in Toad Town until the evil Shroobs launch a devastating attack on the Town sending it in ruins, leaving icky purple mushrooms around, and probing almost the entire Toad population to be taken to Toadwood Forest. After the attack, Love Bubbles and Skellokeys set residence in the ruined parts of the town and Shroids are seen patrolling the town ruins. After unlocking the Peach's Castle Sewers, Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi can access a Time Hole leading to Toad Town but at this point there is not much they can do here, Mario, Luigi, and the babies come here after falling from the Shroob Mothership and progress through the ruined town briefly separating to open the various gates blocking the path, they can also enter the empty houses to obtain items. Gramma Red and Gramma Green also run an item shop at the back end of town and are the only known survivors of the Shroob attack. Toad Town also has an entrance to Star Hill. After Professor Elvin Gadd uses the Hydrogush to douse the water across the Mushroom Kingdom of the past, Toad Town is restored to it's former state of glory prior to the attack.
Toad Town is also seen on the Map of the Mushroom Kingdom of the present in a much better state.
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story/Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey[]
In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, Toad Town is seen once again this time with a much larger role than in previous games. It can be found just south of Peach's Castle. The northern part of the Town has houses where the Toads live, the homes also have items which can be collected, when the Blorbs epidemic is still going before the Miracle Cure is discovered, several Blorbed Toads are seen blocking several pathways to certain houses. The main part of the living area holds a fountain, with blocks that can be reached by using Shell Mario's abilities.
In the southern part of town is the Toad Town Mall, which is a brand new addition to Toad Town. It holds all the shops in the town which sell gear, items, badges, and more. The town also has a Clinic used to find the Star Cures to unite as the Miracle Cure and heal all the blorbed Toads.
Beneath the town is the Toad Town Caves, which is where the Dark Star is being imprisoned and stripped of it's power. That is until the evil Fawful breaks in and steals the Dark Star for his own plans. The tunnels are home to various harmful critters such as Noozes and Fawflants. Pipes which lead aboveground are seen at the ends of the caverns.
Due to Bowser's inability to jump, he cannot enter the main part of Toad Town however he can explore around the outskirts of it, how he managed to reach Toadley Clinic for his battle with Mario and Luigi is unknown however.
In Mario Party DS, Toad Town is briefly seen in the game's intro. During the intro, what appears to be shooting stars cross over the night sky in Toad Town. The first two Party boards are located in Toad Town itself. Wiggler's Garden is shown located in the town square, and Toadette's Music Room is located near the Town's coast.
Toad Town is seen in Mario Circuit of Mario Kart Wii in front of Peach's Castle, however in this game, the houses in the town resemble normal, real-life houses, townhouses, and duplexes taking on more of a street-like appearance. There are several Toads and Shy Guys watching the race from the houses and fences.
