A Timer Gate is an object which exclusively appears in the Bowser's Fury campaign of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.

Mario and Plessie approaching a Timer Gate

They are octagonal rings with a red border, a yellow and orange pattern inside the border, and art of Plessie's face in the center, which is cropped from Plessie's Stamp in Plessie's Plunging Falls. While the outside border of Timer Gates may appear orange in Bowser's Fury, this because the in-game lighting engine alters the color, while the model itself shows the intended color.

If Mario passes through a Timer Gate, a short timer challenge is activated that creates an athletic course with platforms, ramps and Dash Panels that lead over to a Cat Shine. Plessie is required to complete the course and reach the Cat Shine within the time limit. If the Cat Shine is not collected on time, the platforms and Cat Shine vanish, in which case Mario and Plessie are forced to go back through the ring to retry the challenge. Once a Timer Gate's corresponding Cat Shine has been collected, the Timer Gate turns gray to indicate that its challenge has been completed. However, the challenge remains accessible and retains its usual functionality.

In Bowser's Fury[]

Timer Gates appear in the water around Lake Lapcat. Four Cat Shines can be collected after passing through a Timer Gate:

  • Hurry! Dash and Dive! - its Time Ring is located near a waterfall near the Lakeside Giga Bell
  • Hurry! Swim and Slide! - its Time Ring is located near the Ruins Giga Bell
  • Hurry! Slide through the Sky! - its Time Ring is located somewhat near Clawswipe Colosseum
  • Hurry! Slip to the Shine! - its Time Ring is located near Pipe Path Tower
