Time holes are an object in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time.

Description[]

Time holes are tears in the spacetime continuum that can be used to time-travel between the past and the present. A time hole has the appearance of a circular swirl with pink and yellow patterns.

In Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time[]

Time holes are essential for the Mario Bros. to use during their journey, as time-traveling is a key mechanic. If one pair of the Mario Bros. jumps through a time hole alone, the other pair follows soon after, regardless of the terrain outside the time hole they went through.

There are a few different ways that a time hole can be created. The first time hole is opened when the damaged time machine returns from the past, but it closes after being used by Mario, Luigi, and Stuffwell. Most of the other time holes are caused by reactions from the Cobalt Star shards. During her boss fight, the Elder Princess Shroob can open time holes, although this is to attack Mario and Luigi.

Professor E. Gadd later uses the time holes' energy to power his time machine after the Cobalt Star is destroyed, bringing Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach back into the present.
