Thwomp is a non-playable character who first appeared in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. It is a representative of its species of the same name.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga[]

The only two Thwomps of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga live in the new home of the Hammerhead Bros. from the Hoohoo Mountain to Beanbean Kingdom outskirts. The Gray Rock leading to the first Thwomp and Black Rock leading to the second Thwomp can be destroyed after the Mario and Luigi's hammers are upgraded to the level required for each of the types of rocks. Each Thwomp reveals himself in a featureless room.

In each respective room, he explains that if Mario and Luigi want to play the game, they will be charged a certain number of coins to have a chance at winning a prize from the three summoned stones. The three summoned stones are actually a gimmick as each stone have the same result, which is randomized when the bros enter the thwomp's room.

The first room, which requires a Super Hammer to break the Gray Rock blocking it, charges 200 coins with the possible results being nothing, 200 coins, 300 coins, or Secret Scroll 1. The Secret Scroll 1 can only be obtained once, so only the 3 remaining results are possible after it is obtained.

The second room, which requires an Ultra Hammer to break the Black Rock blocking it, charges 500 coins with the possible results being nothing, 500 coins, 800 coins, or Secret Scroll 2. The Secret Scroll 2 can only be obtained once, so only the 3 remaining results are possible after it is obtained.

In the remake, he looks like a normal Thwomp, although slightly thicker.
