Not to be confused with Thwomp.

Thwimps are small variants of Thwomps that have appeared as enemies several times in the Mario franchise. Thwimps make their debut in Super Mario World. While they still pose the same threats to a regular Thwomp, Thwimps just jump around in set areas, and rarely hit, diminishing their issue so study their moves to run past them unharmed. Mario commonly cannot defeat Thwimps unless he uses a Starman.

History[]

Super Mario World[]

Thwimps are first seen in Super Mario World, and also return in the Game Boy Advance remake Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2. Here, Thwomps are commonly seen in various castles alongside Thwomps. Thwimps behave similarly to the Thwomps, but instead of landing straight down from above, Thwimps prefer to hop back and forth in arcs to try and hit Mario or Luigi. The Thwimps always follow the same patterns with their jumps so if the plumbers time their movements, they will have an easier time making it past the Thwimps. Typical Thwimps can only be destroyed with the effects of a Starman however Lemmy's Castle has several Magikoopas which spawn Thwimps from their wands which can be hit with Koopa Shells upon emerging.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong[]

Thwimps appear again in Mario vs. Donkey Kong retaining their behavior from before (leaping around in arcs with set patterns). In this game, Thwimps are commonly seen in levels of Spooky House and often guard key objects such as switches and items. They aren't typically aggressive but they are invincible and cannot be destroyed in any way. Mario must time his movements to get the item or hit the switch and get out while avoiding the Thwimp.

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[]

Thwimps also appear in New Super Mario Bros. U as well as New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (they are absent from New Super Luigi U). In these games, they are commonly seen in castles such as Wendy's Shifting Castle where they can be found bouncing around the hallways and corridors. The heroes must time their movements to avoid being hit by the jumping Thwimps. The Thwimps always follow the same patterns with their jumps and primarily land on blue linoleum flooring (which appears to be dented from the Thwimps constant jumping). They can also land on Question Blocks as well. Thwimps are rather durable enemies and can mainly be defeated with the effects of a Starman, they can also be defeated by hitting a Question Block from underneath as the Thwimp is perched on it or by tossing a frozen enemy (frozen by the effects of an Ice Flower or Penguin Suit) at the Thwimp.

Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition[]

Thwimp Battle

A Thwimp.

Thwimps reappear in Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition and can be allies and enemies to Mario in his adventure. Thwimps are often paired up with Thwomps or Super Thwomps during battles against them. They also aren't as tough as the regular Thwomps.
