This item can be difficult to manage, since if you time things right, you could reap its benefits and then give the problems to another racer. However it can be hard to pull off as its difficult to tell when the Thundercloud is going to attack.

Thundercloud is an item. It first appeared in Mario Kart Wii, and has a hot-potato-like nature.

When it's picked up, a cloud will appear above your player. After a short amount of time, lightning will stike down from the cloud. This can either do one of two things; it can zap you sporadically with charges. However, if you do it for too long, it'll zap you too hard and you'll shrink in the process, reducing you to that of a Lightning-sufferer. However, if you hit someone else, they'll obtain the risk.

This item can be difficult to manage, since if you time things right, you could reap its benefits and then give the problems to another racer. However it can be hard to pull off as its difficult to tell when the Thundercloud is going to attack.

A Thundercloud will disappear if the player carrying it goes through a cannon (for example the ones in DK Mountain, Rainbow Road, or Maple Treeway) like a Starman.

Glitch

There can only ever be one Thundercloud on the track at any one time. However, if there's a hacker in the race, they can spawn a Thundercloud, pass it onto another racer, and then spawn another one. Since there can only be one Thundercloud in the race, the other racers cloud will disappear, but will leave them with the speed boost for the rest of the race, or at least until they fall off of the course. Occasionally, hackers will use this glitch to make all racers on the track drive as if they were using a Starman[note 1]
