Thorbs are enemies in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. They commonly appear in Mushrise Park.
Description[]
Thorbs appear to be living pumpkins. Their legs are dark brown and stubby, being pointy like those of the Pi'illos, and there are spikes on their head.
Behaviour[]
In the field, Thorbs tend to ramble throughout their territory, but if it is approached, the creature aims its spikes at the intruder in self-defense. A rattling sound can be heard while the intruder remains close. A Thorb can rotates its spikes to aim them at the intruder, but it will not move otherwise.
Battle[]
Due to their spikes, Thorbs can counter jump attacks, dealing their would-be attacker a single point of damage (As such, the only Boots attacks that can damage them are the 3D Red Shell and 3D Green Shell Special Attacks.). Their attacks involve them ramming into their target. If they compress and spin, their charge must be jumped over. Otherwise, their charge attack must be blocked via hammers. Additionally, the compress-and-spin version of the ram will loop around to hit the opposite Bro. The creature is in the sixth spot in the No Hitters.
A Toad needs to be saved from some Thorbs in Mushrise Park in a miniboss battle that teaches the player on how to use hammers. Doing so results in automatically obtaining the first Attack Piece for the aforementioned 3D Red Shell Special Attack.
Statistics[]
A Thorb is a Level 5 enemy with 12 hit points, an attack stat of 36, a defense of 46, and a speed of 28. When slain, it gives 1 experience, and its loot upon death includes 6 Coins and a 1-in-20 chance of a Nut.
Behind the Scenes[]
The Thorb's name comes from the word "thorn," with the final B coming from "orb" or "barb."
Nomenclature[]
In Japanese, Thorbs are called Thorn Bulbs (The actual name is Toge Kyūkon, written トゲキューコン; Kyūkon means ball while Toge means "thorn" or "spike."). Spanish translates their name as Espibola, derived from espina ("thorn") and bola ("ball"). Portuguese calls them Espinhola, from espinho ("thorn") and bola ("ball"). In Italian, their name is Raidikorno, from rádice ("root") and corno ("horn"). French translates their name as Boulapik, from boule ("ball") and pique ("pike" or "lance"). In German, they are called Stachzel, from a corruption of stachel ("spike"). Russian translates their name as Krugloship (written Круглошип), from kruglyj ("round"; written круглый) and ship ("spike"; written шип). Korean calls them Gasidong-geuli (written 가시동글이), from gasi ("thorn"), deong-geul ("round"), and the a Korean diminutive name ending -i, meaning the creature is literally called "little round thorn" in that language.
