"The Trojan Koopa" is the thirty-sixth episode of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, and its corresponding live-action segment is "Texas Tea".

Synopsis[]

After an unsuccessful attempt at rescuing Princess Toadstool from King Koopa, Mario, Luigi, and Toad get an idea to fool King Koopa using a Trojan Horse resembling him.

Plot[]

Mario, Luigi, and Toad are out at sea on a rescue mission to free Princess Toadstool from King Koopa, who is holding her captive in his fortress on the island of Koopas. Unfortunately, Bowser takes an immediate notice of the Marios coming and is prepared for their arrival with the Hammer Bros. at his side.

The Marios and Toad manage to make it to the island, but now have the trouble of getting into the fortress to rescue the Princess. Each one tries a different plan to enter, but each fails. Mario attempts to scale the walls by strapping plungers to his feet but the Hammer Bros. knock out the brick he was standing on. Luigi attempts to pole vault to the top but the pole is broken. Toad comes closest to entering by using a giant slingshot and manages to evade the Hammer Bros., but is thrown out by King Koopa himself. Fed up with the Marios meddling and believing that the Princess is correct when she claims they'll never give up, Bowser sends out the Hammer Bros. to finish off the Marios and send them away. The attempt fails due to sibling rivalry between the Hammer Bros.

Looking out from his tower, Bowser notices the Marios floating away on their bathtub ship and believes them to have given up, and even the Princess believes this. It is later revealed that the "Marios" are really the Hammer Bros. tied up and dressed as the Marios along with a wooden statue of Toad. Bowser then sees a huge wooden statue of himself and is very excited ("It's... It's horrible! It's disgusting! It's me!" *runs down the stairs of the watchtower* "It's a monument to my terrible greatness!") and orders his Shy Guys to bring it in.

Once inside, it is revealed that the Marios and Toad are inside the statue and at night, they plan to break out (hence the episode's title). Unfortunately, the Hammer Bros. return and wake everyone in the fortress, alerting them to the Marios' presence. The Princess, seeing her friends in danger makes a wish and receives a Starman. Using it, she becomes a Super Princess and rescues her friends. Bowser flees on the Marios' tub, but soon finds it has a leak. The Marios and friends happily leave the island on the remains of the Koopa statue.

Trivia/Goofs[]

  • At the beginning, Mario calls Koopa "Kooper".
  • At one point Luigi and Toad's mouths are moving as if to speak but no words come out
  • When Mario pulls Toads back in the slingshot, Luigi's outfit is entirely different. His clothes are drawn green, but his overalls are missing and a collar is shown.
  • When Mario, Luigi, and Toad are cornered, Toad is shown with teeth.
  • The Princess refers to herself as "Princess P." This is a nod to her name being Princess Peach, which was the name used only in Japan at the time. Up until the introduction of Yoshi's Safari and codified by Super Mario 64, Princess Peach was referred to as "Princess Toadstool" in the United States.
  • When the powered Princess steps on the line of Shy Guys, the last Shy Guy suddenly materializes before it is stepped on.
  • The last appearance of the Hammer Bros.
  • This episode is a reference to the Trojan Horse.
  • The helmet Toad wears when using the slingshot is the same helmet he wore as the Toad Warrior in "Toad Warriors."
  • This is the only time in "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show" that the Princess is shown to be capable of using power-ups.
  • Apparently, the Mario Bros. brought extra clothes with them, because even after they get rid of the disguised Hammer Bros., they are still wearing their own outfits.
  • Princess Toadstool was not voiced by Jeannie Elias in this episode.
  • In the Region 1 DVD release, this episode was relegated as a "bonus" episode (in Disc Four) because its accompanied live-action segment was not included due for unknown legal reasons.
