The Talkatoo is a character that can be found all around Super Mario Odyssey. When talked to, the Talkatoo will give Mario a clue about the location of a Power Moon. He can give up to three unique hints about the locations of Power Moons in a specific kingdom at a time. Any Power Moons whose name the Talkatoo gives away will be marked with his head.

Locations[]

The Talkatoo can be found in the following locations, with his location being marked with a parrot's head on the map (Note that the directions assumes that the top of the map is "north.")

  • Cap Kingdom: At the southern end of the bridge that connects the island that Mario starts out on to the "main" island. Mario cannot talk to the Talkatoo during his first visit to the kingdom.
  • Cascade Kingdom: At the southwestern area of the Kingdom.
  • Sand Kingdom: On top of the northwestern building in Tostarena town.
  • Lake Kingdom: On the floor below the display with the Lochlady Dress.
  • Wooded Kingdom: Close to the edge, west of the Iron Road Entrance.
  • Lost Kingdom: After Mario makes his way across the Propeller Pillar, the Talkatoo can be seen on the ridge.
  • Metro Kingdom: At the park where Mario enters the city.
  • Snow Kingdom: In the Shiveria Town, near the entrance to the Snowline Circuit hub.
  • Seaside Kingdom: East of the volleyball court at the western end of the beach, farther than the Checkpoint Flag. When Dauphin Mollusque-Lanceur initiates his fight, talking to the Talkatoo will only yield terrified squawking instead of hints.
  • Luncheon Kingdom: Perched on one of the southern buildings in Peronza Plaza.
  • Bowser's Kingdom: At the Keep on top of Bowser's Castle.
  • Moon Kingdom: A little northeast of the Odyssey's landing spot.
  • Mushroom Kingdom: Southwest of the bridge over the stream, sitting near it.

Names in Other Languages[]

In Japanese, Korean, and Chinese, the Talkatoo is called the "Hint Bird," with the word "hint" in his name untranslated in Japanese (Hinto Tori; ヒント鳥) and Korean (Hinteu Sae; 힌트새), although it is translated in Chinese (Tíshì Nǐao; 提示鳥). In Spanish, he is called "Cotorrete," from La Cotorra (parrot). In French, he is called "Perrotruc," derived from "perroquet" (parrot) and "Truc," a slang term for an unidentified object. The Talkatoo is referred to as Chiacchierotto in Italian, from chiacchierare, a verb that means "to chat."

Trivia[]

  • In "Mario Reads Your Letters," the Talkatoo is referred to as one of Mario's friends, despite his small meetings with Mario. It is possible that Mario was thankful to the Talkatoo for assisting in his journey to find Power Moons, as sometimes the name of the Power Moon in question serves as a hint to the location.
  • Throwing the Cappy-possessed Mario cap being thrown near the Talkatoo causes him to squawk endlessly.
  • Etymology: His name is a portmanteau of the words "talk" and "cockatoo" (despite his resemblance to a parrot and not a real cockatoo).
  • The Talkatoo's messages give away the Power Moon's name but not the location, so he is sort of the opposite to the Glasses Toad of the Toad Brigade, who gives away the location of the Power Moon, but not the name.
