Spotlight

Greetings! I'm from the Wikia Gaming Team, and I want to add the Mario Wiki to the spotlights running on Wikia (those little ads for other wikis that you see). We're specifically going to feature you on the Super Smash Bros. wiki because we think that a lot of people interested in SSB would also be interested in Mario. The only catch is that in order to be eligible to be featured, you have to meet our best practices. The good news is that you already meet almost all of them! The only problem is that your Main Page is still called "Main Page". To help with Google ranking, we suggest that you rename your main page to "Mario Wiki". This is pretty easy to do. You can learn about how to do this, and find more suggestions about promoting your wiki here.

Of course, you don't have to do this, but we think it's a good idea, it's pretty easy, and we'll help promote you if you do. ;)

I copied the Template:Character from my wiki (mario Party Wiki) in hopes that you guys would use it to spiff up your character articles. However I seem to be only guy who does. Check Mario, Luigi, Shadow Mario, Bowser, and Peach articles. - Count Caterpie

Hi. My name is StarYoshi1, and I'm from the other Mario Wiki. I came across this wiki a couple of weeks ago, and I decided to join. I found that this site does not have a template for the games, while there is one for the characters. Now I'm not a total Wiki expert, and don't know how to make templates, but I thought that maybe someone could make one. Maybe it could be designed somethig like this:

Power-up Articles

We have an article for the Starman, and one for Rainbow Mario: The direct effect of the Starman. We have the same for several of Mario's power-ups. Why not just merge the Transformation Article, with the Power-up Article? It makes so much more sense that way. Thoughts?

Rainbow Mario

I think the Mario transformation called "Rainbow Mario" really is called Rainbow Mario because that's the name from Super Mario Galaxy. You can't argue with Nintendo, you know. If we did that, people would just make hundreds of small minor punctuation edits and get promoted without putting in actual effort. 2. I don't think that would be a good idea. In part because MarioGalaxy, Launcher, I, and other top contributers would continue to win it over and over again. What I mean is that those who edit, edit a lot. Also, we have more important things, like improving our wiki, than an unimportant contest.

			I'm going to put in a suggestion. I say that we have the community vote on each other. For starters, we need to have a limit, like here at least one week and fifty constructive, non-minor mainspace edits, i.e. those that were not reverted, and need to have a talkbubble. Those that satisfy those conditions can vote. We should do one each month. Some rules I would implement would be no one user can become featured user of the month if they have done so in the same year.

I've used this feature an a number of wiki's and think its worthwhile, I'll set up the template, but you'll have to implement it, if you agree, and since there is a blank spot underneath the news and clean up of the month.

Here is the template: Template:Random Image

Images would have to be set up like File:Ice Mario.jpg With a link to the page it relates to. The link will show up as the caption in the thumbnail.

BTW.. on my system the news column bleeds on top of the Featured article, I suggest changing the width to 90%, under:

Cleanup of the Month

Some Problems

Umm, I've gotta say, I see a few problems on the front page here:

• A period should be placed at the end of the paragraph at the top.
• The Glitz Pit fight hasn't been updated on the front page. There was a fight after the one on the page too!

Newly acquired White Space

Hrmm, it now seems we have a small problem. With the deletion of the featured screenshot, we now have white space in it's place. One easy solution I see, is to just move one of the items from the thin column over and slightly extend it, but that's me. — Wattz2000 01:46, September 8, 2011 (UTC)

Chat on MarioWiki

One more thing I wanted to talk about. MarioWiki has IRC, but Wikia has now introduced a new chat feature that many wikis are using, such as SNN. I think we should turn it on. A contest idea

Lala Dah Rah... ♫♪ {{{sig}}} Shouldn't be cool if we make a contest for the Shy Guy's real face? I mean: To give a picture of a Shy Guy on the main page and people to be able to download it. Then using an image editor they will need to draw how they imagine the Shy Guy's real face and simply upload the image.

Hey, I'm Rainbowroad6w, head admin, and I deleted the page, and let me explain why. Also, I may sound a little rude or harmful, but I really don't want to scare you off. We'd love your help. :)

First of all, the quality of the page was bad. I just won't tolerate bad quality, and I had no knowledge of this article and it looked pointless, especially since there wasn't much information to start with. Things that are required for a page are:

• Bold text for the article title (ex. the Mario page: "Mario is a the main...")
• Italics on game title or series (ex. Mario Kart)
• Links
• Categories
• Correct grammar and spelling
• Normally I like to have a picture in there, if possible

Again, don't mean to scare you off or make you mad, but these are just things required for a good article. I was able to fix up a few of your other edits, but that page specifically just wasn't working out at all, so I just deleted it.

You guys do realise there is already a mario wiki not hosted by Wikia with a lot more pages than this one, right? I just don't see the point of building this one up when there is already a larger, non-wikia mario wiki. 16:30, December 15, 2012 (UTC)
