Why is Mario is Missing! Mario is Missing! Mario is Missing--(Like I said, all three were in the auto fill) and Hotel Mario considered Non-canonical? Mario is in it. Wikepedia doesn't claim it is. Have you read the beginning of the article, someone guesses their ages. Is that Canonical? Can we please just get rid of the reference to Canon, it really sounds pretentious. BTW.. I thought they were called Koopa Kids--My Name Is Tom _{(Talk / Edits)} 01:24, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

They are sometimes called Koopa Kids, but there is another Mario character called koopa kid, so it is a bad idea. The MarioGalaxy2433g5 {talk/contribs/Logs} 02:09, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

Not Bowser's sons

This is quite outdated as Nintendo stated that the Koopaling aren't Bowser's sons and the only son is Bowser Jr.

That would be a retcon, at least in term of the English port. Page 5/49 of the PDF manual at https://www.nintendo.co.jp/clv/manuals/en/pdf/CLV-P-NAACE.pdf (displayed as page 4) clearly says "These are Bowser's kids!" Does anyone know what the original names were before the rename based on English musicians?

Might take consulting the original manual for SMB3 or something?

We can find that at http://www.thealmightyguru.com/Wiki/images/0/03/Super_Mario_Bros._3_-_NES_-_Japan_-_Manual_-_Digital.pdf where it is also on page 5/49 of this PDF too, although in this case it displays page 3 at the bottom, not page 4.

original dialogue

So I asked around from some Japanese translators about what the original Japanese text/kanji said in the SMB3 manual prior to the english port. I was told this:

1. Larry: I managed to steal a total of 7 wands from that idiot king. My brothers and I have one each. I'm not going to give them away so easily because I don't want get yelled at by the old man (father)!
2. Morton: Hm, doing pretty good huh. Mario's transformations will prove to make things more difficult.. I'll have to report this to my father.
3. Wendy: I've never fought Mario before so I'm going to study his page very carefully!
4. Iggy: Ahahaha. Mario and the others must be getting nervous by now, sucks for them! Well then, let me explain single player worlds using World 1 as an example, you better be listening!!
5. Roy: These are all things Mario might want aren't they.. Items obtained in the action screen (I assume they mean regular gameplay) cannot be used while moving around the map screen, so be careful!
6. Lemmy: The world maps are getting more and more complex and huge, it'll get more difficult the further you progress! The only person who knows anything about the Land of Darkness is my old man, but I did manage to witness them building some amazing new weapons over there..
7. Ludwig: Cool, you're in? I'm glad to have such an aggressive and radical friend in my life babyyy. Not gonna lie, I have more friends but I don't want Mario to know about them..

We can see that some translations like Morton/Wendy/Ludwig were pretty much kept identical whereas some of them like Larry's got more serious rephrasing ("not going to give ... don't want to get yelled at by father" implies "instructed us to protect" I guess, but still changed phrasing)

Iggy's change was huge since it implies he was narrating the 14th page. Same with Roy, what he said seems to have been simplified.

Lemmy seems to have made a reference to his dad in the original, although in a different way (knowing about hte Land of Darkness, not making a new weapon there)

So yeah this pops the "Bowser Jr. was his only kid" bubble it seems, unless it's something like Bowser Jr. is the only biological kid and maybe the Koopalings are adopted foundlings who refer to him as dad but actually might be his niece/nephews? Tycio (talk) 18:08, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

Relation to Bowser

How do y'all think they're related to Bowser, if at all? Personally, I headcanon them as his nephews and niece, making them Junior's cousins. The Koopa king does apparently have a brother, after all.
