Tag Barrels are objects that only appear in Donkey Kong 64.

History

Tag Barrels are found throughout levels and stages in the game and the main function of them is to switch out between the Kongs. A Tag Barrel can be identified from a distance as a small star and can be jumped into. Once all of the Kongs, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Tiny Kong, Lanky Kong, and Chunky Kong, have been unlocked, they each can be selected. It should be noted that the Kongs break the fourth wall by noticing the player trying to choose them. If the player isn't on a specific Kong, the Kong will try to get the player to choose them. Tag Barrels are very useful for healing watermelon slices as well.

Trivia

  • Humorously, if Chunky isn't selected, he'll act like he wants to player to choose him. If the player does move over to Chunky, he will gasp in fear and asks the player to choose his younger cousin, Tiny, instead.
