Superballs, exclusive to Super Mario Land, function like the fireballs Mario and Luigi throw in other games, but differ in two respects: they move in straight, diagonal lines, bouncing off the walls, floor, and ceiling; and they can be used to pick up coins.

After a Superball Flower is collected and Mario transforms into Superball Mario, he will be able to toss Superballs at enemies. Unlike with fireballs that bounce along the ground, Superballs are fired directly off of surfaces and go at a right angle. This can make it rather difficult to hit enemies with. However, Superballs are able to collect coins unlike with fireballs that simply go through them.
