Super Thwomps (also called Rainbow Thwomps or Star Thwomps) are shiny Thwomps found throughout the Mario Kart series. They appear to be enhanced with the effects of a Starman as they are basically invincible and can knock over any racers that collide with them. Super Thwomps are also capable of shaking the roads causing a ripple effect each time.

History[]

Super Mario Kart[]

Super Thwomps make their debut in Super Mario Kart only appearing in the course Rainbow Road. Their behavior is identical to a regular Thwomp but they glow and can also spin out any racers who run into them.

Mario Kart 7[]

Super Thwomps return in Mario Kart 7 once again appearing in SNES Rainbow Road. They now glow a rainbow color and can also knock over racers who run into them. Super Thwomps possess the ability to cause ripples and waves in the road to try and throw players off course but this can also be useful as players can preform tricks as well. Unlike the regular Thwomps, in this game, the Super Thwomps have acute spikes similar to the Thwomp's appearance in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Mario Kart 8/Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[]

Super Thwomps reappear in SNES Rainbow Road in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. In these games, their ripple effects are stronger and they too are slightly larger. Super Thwomps have more of a sparkle to their new rainbow color and their spikes are now blunt like the standard Thwomps.

Mario Kart Tour[]

Super Thwomps return in Mario Kart Tour once again appearing in SNES Rainbow Road. In this game, their appearance and behavior is identical to how it was in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Trivia[]

  • Likely due to hardware limitations, the Super Thwomps in Mario Kart: Super Circuit have been replaced with standard Thwomps.
  • The Super Thwomps also share their name with the larger Thwomps found throughout the main series. Due to this, the two Thwomps are often confused with each-other.
