Super Sonic is a move from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. It made its first overall appearance in the 16-bit Sonic the Hedgehog 2, while its first Mario-related appearance is in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Description[]

Super Sonic is a form that is taken by Sonic the Hedgehog when he collects the seven Chaos Emeralds. The power-up noticeably changes Sonic's fur to a golden yellow color, gives him the ability to levitate, and to soar in midair at fast speeds.

History[]

Super Smash Bros. series[]

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]

Since Sonic's introduction in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Sonic has been featured as his Final Smash. When Sonic initiates the move, Chaos Emeralds appear around him to transform him into Super Sonic, allowing him to freely fly around at high speed and ram into opponents to damage them. Sonic cannot self-destruct while using Super Sonic, as he cannot fly past the stage's blast lines while in this form. Super Sonic is also incapable of taunting while using the move. Like every other Final Smash, the effects of Super Sonic are temporary, so after some time, Sonic returns to his usual form.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Super Sonic instead involves Sonic doing automatic movements and flying rapidly across the screen multiple times, damaging whoever he hits. However, the player can still control the height that Super Sonic moves in.

Mario & Sonic series[]

Throughout the series, Super Sonic is only featured in the form of wearable Mii costumes.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Wii)[]

A Mii costume based on Super Sonic can be unlocked by winning it from the lottery at random, and its stats are identical to Sonic's own Mii costume.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games (Wii)[]

The unlock criteria for the Super Sonic Mii costume is instead winning in first place fifty times in Single Event Mode. Like in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games for Wii, the stats are identical to Sonic's own Mii costume.

Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games[]

The unlock criteria for the Super Sonic Mii costume was changed again, this time to playing over two-hundred events. Like in previous Mario & Sonic installments, Sonic's own Mii costume has the same stats.

Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games (Wii U)[]

The unlock criteria for the Mii costume set for Super Sonic is now by scanning the Sonic amiibo and completing the Sonic League. It must be collected in two separate parts, each with their own stat changes.
