The Super Scope, known in PAL regions as the Nintendo Scope, is a light gun peripheral used for certain Super Nintendo Entertainment System games. It has made appearances within various Mario-related games, the first being as a weapon in Yoshi's Safari.

Description[]

The Super Scope is essentially a successor to the NES Zapper, a light gun peripheral for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The Super Scope fires an infrared beam picked up by a sensor placed on top of the television. The aim of the Super Scope is determined by the sensor after calibrating the scope by shooting a test target screen. The Super Scope is a wireless controller, and six AA batteries are required to use it.

In Yoshi's Safari[]

Mario uses the Super Scope throughout his journey to shoot at enemies. On the title screen, he can be seen holding the Super Scope upward while mounted on Yoshi.

In the Super Smash Bros. series[]

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

The Super Scope is an item in every installment starting with Super Smash Bros. Melee. With it, characters can shoot energy balls at their opponents, either in dozens of small bullets (up to 48) or a few large charged-up shots, three in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl and five in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. When a character repeatedly shoots small blasts in a straightforward line, the opponent cannot move away. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, the user is also unable to move while firing, although subsequent installments enable them to jump and move while doing so.

In the WarioWare series[]

In the Mario & Luigi series[]

The Super Scope is featured as the weapon used by Sniper Bills in both Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and its Nintendo 3DS remake Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions.

NA This wireless weapon from the SNES era can be used kind of like a bazooka in battle. Press the attack button rapidly to spray shots, or hold it down to charge up a powerful blast. The weapon's ammo won't last forever, however, so try not to get caught without juice left in your batteries.
EU This wireless peripheral for the SNES can be used as a kind of bazooka in this game. And it comes with two different firing modes! Press the attack button repeatedly or hold it down to try them out! However, depending on how you use it, the batteries might run out pretty quick. And if they do, the fun's over. That's it!
