Super Mario Land
Daisy has been kidnapped by Tatanga of Sarasaland; it is up to Mario to rescue her. This first game is one of the best-selling games of all time, currently having sold 18.14 million copies, and spans four worlds, each with three levels. It has many notable differences to games in the Super Mario Bros. series, such as the bosses, location and many of the enemies. Power-ups are limited to the Super Mushroom and Fire Flower, the only other item being coins and 1-ups.
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
Wario makes his first ever appearance as the main enemy here, and has taken over Mario's castle. This is the only Mario game ever to have zones as opposed to worlds. The carrot is a power-up unique to this game, which gives Mario the ability to hover indefinitely.
Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land
Wario is the playable character in this game.
