Subcon is a world featured as the main setting of Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and its overseas Mario conversion Super Mario Bros. 2. It is the homeland of the species of the same name.
History[]
Mario had a dream he was in Subcon where Wart kidnapped the Subcon. Mario woke up and told Luigi, Toad and Peach about his dream. They decided to have a picnic near the mountain and found a cave, followed by the stairs which lead to a door. As they opened the door, it lead to the world of Subcon.
Spoiler warning : Don't you even dare read the spoiler! Because if you do… Hoo hoo hoo hoo hoooooo… A horrible fate awaits you.The group ventured through Subcon until they found King Wart and defeated him. They went to the room where the Subcon were trapped in the vase. Freeing them, they celebrate their rescue with Mario, Luigi, Toad and Peach. Mario woke up wondering if his dream was true, but continued sleeping.
Shortly after the events of Super Mario Bros. 2, Mario and his friends believe Subcon is all a dream and move on. However, Wart returns and overthrows the King of Subcon in the heroes' absence. Mario and his friends must once again face the forces of Wart, including the Birdo trio, Mouser, Tryclyde, Fryguy and Clawgrip. Both the protagonists and their foes can use the power of the stars (satellites) to their advantage. In addition, Mouser has stolen the golden Mario statues, symbols of peace, and hid them throughout Subcon.

Subcon is linked to an interdimensional dream pocket dimension called "Subspace" in which Mario and crew can travel there via potion. Subspace is typically the place you'll encounter red coins and mushrooms, but being limited by a time, you got to be quick in Subspace in getting the item you want as mushrooms or red coins can be vacant at times, depending on the area.

- This stage makes an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Melee as Mushroom Kingdom II.
