Luigi's Mansion

The Strobulb is an item that appears in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, the Nintendo 3DS remake of Luigi's Mansion, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD and Luigi's Mansion 3.

Description[]

The Strobulb is the first flashlight add-on to the Poltergust 3000 (3DS remake only), Poltergust 5000 and Poltergust G-00, it is required to activate Strobe Switches and to stun ghosts as, unlike in the first game, shining light via flashlight is no longer sufficient to stun ghosts in the game.

The player can use the Strobulb without charging it, or hold the an specific button for approximately one second to release a stronger flash, not fully charging the Strobulb results in a flash of equal size to one that is not charged at all. A fully charged flash allows the player to stun multiple ghosts at once than an ordinary flash. Some ghosts have objects to shield them from being flashed; these objects must be removed before the flashlight or Strobulb is used. When the player charges the Strobulb, the actual light coming from the flashlight decreases as it starts charging, and while it is fully charged, a small circle is seen at the source. Unleashing it creates a powerful beam of light, with small light particles at the end of the flash.

History[]

In Luigi's Mansion series[]

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon / Luigi's Mansion 2 HD[]

The Strobulb is obtained by Luigi in the foyer of Gloomy Manor in the first mission of the game. The player can activate the Strobulb by pressing and holding A Button, the longer the player holds A Button, the stronger the flash will be. It should be noted that some enemies like Spiders and Bats or even weaker ghosts such as Greenies doesn't require a fully charged Strobulb to stun or defeat them. However, tougher ghosts like Slammers or the Possessor ghosts require a fully-charged Strobulb to stun them before vacuuming them up. The Strobulb can also be used to open up flowers that sometimes hold treasure or even Keys. Also, the Strobulb can open special doors and safes which leads to secret rooms and treasure. Unlike the Dark-Light Device, the Strobulb can be held as long the player holds A Button but Luigi will have a harder time running around to avoid attacks.

Luigi's Mansion[]

The Strobulb reappears in the Nintendo 3DS remake of Luigi's Mansion. The player can choose to use the flashlight from the GameCube version or choose the Strobulb, activated with A Button, making the gameplay more like that of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.

Luigi's Mansion 3[]

The Strobulb returns in Luigi's Mansion 3, where it is used again to stun ghosts, as well as activating Strobe Switches found throughout the game.

Unlike in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, the Strobulb is embedded to the Poltergust G-00 rather than being exposed and like in the aforementioned game, some ghosts use objects to block the effects of the Strobulb, and the objects must be removed before the ghosts can be stunned. The Strobulb is activated by pressing A Button or R Button.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]

Luigi briefly used the Strobulb function in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate reveal trailer for Simon Belmont and Richter Belmont titled "Vampire Killer." In said trailer, Luigi attempts to use the Strobulb to ward off several mummies in Dracula's Castle but to no avail.
