The Storch is an enemy in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. They can be encountered in Dreamy Pi'illo Castle, but only in Dream Worlds accessed from under the bridge that connects the castle's courtyard to Mushrise Park. Storches are less common than some Dream World enemies, and tend to appear in smaller groups.
Description[]
Storches are yellow torch-like birds that resemble living torches. Their bodies are conical with no legs, leaving the creatures to hop around on their bottoms as locomotion. Their wings are reddish-orange, and their eyes are reddish-orange round protrusions coming from the top of their head with smaller yellow dots as pupils.
Combat[]
In battle, Storches attack by lighting their eyes on fire and head-butting the ground, creating a wave of fire that surfs forward. The target has to jump over the fire.
A Storch is a Level 3 enemy with 14 hit points at full Health, an Attack of 50, a Defense of 30, and a Speed of 23. When slain, it grants 4 Experience and 3 Coins, and can also drop a Super Mushroom in 1 out of 20 kills.
Behind the Scenes[]
Storches, despite their name, are not really based on storks, but their designs are based on torches. Their name is derived from the word "stork" merged with "torch."
Nomenclature[]
In Japanese, Storches are called kyandorī (written キャンドリー), their name coming from the Japanese transliterations of "candle" (resulting in kyandoru; written キャンドル) and "dream" (resulting in dorīmu; written ドリーム) merged with the Japanese translation of "bird" (tori; written 鳥 in Kanji). Their Spanish name, Llamarucho, comes from llama (which can mean "flame"). Portuguese refers to them as Candelasas, from candelabra ("candelabra") and asa ("wing"). Italian translates their name as Storco (from torca ("torch") mixed with English "stork"). In French, the creature is called Fastorche (from fastoche ("easy") and torche ("torch")). German just uses the English word "stork" as their name. In Korean, their name is Chosburi, from chosbul ("candle"; written 촛불) and buri ("beak"; written 부리). In Russian, they go by Svechepryg (written Свечепрыг), from svecha ("candle"; written свеча) and prygat ("to jump"; written прыгать).
