The Steel Driver is a recurring kart in the Mario Kart series. It first appears in Mario Kart 8.
Description[]
The Steel Driver is a submarine-like vehicle with a dark blue top and a red underside. It is based on the submarine used in the Nintendo 3DS game Steel Diver, except in the form of a kart. When the Steel Driver goes underwater, the propeller appears in the rear guard, similarly to a submarine itself. The emblem is located on the front sides of the Steel Driver.
In Mario Kart series[]
Mario Kart 8[]
The Steel Driver is an unlockable kart body. It boosts weight and traction, but lowers acceleration and handling. The Steel Driver has identical stats to the Badwagon, the Tri-Speeder, the Standard ATV, and the GLA.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[]
Unlike the original Mario Kart 8, the Steel Driver is available from the start. It instead boosts speed and weight, but lowers acceleration and handling. Just as before, the Steel Driver shares its stats with the Tri-Speeder, but the only other kart body that its stats are the same as is the Bone Rattler.
As computer-controlled opponents, Iggy, Koopa Troopa, Dry Bones, and Wiggler sometimes use a configuration of the Steel Driver with the Metal tires.
Mario Kart Tour[]
The Steel Driver is a High-End kart which uses the Pirate Sushi Racer's tires. The Steel Driver was added at the start of the 2020 Mario vs. Luigi Tour. Later on, during the Snow Tour, the Steel Driver became the signature kart of Penguin Luigi. The Steel Driver increases the duration of Slipstream boosts and the number of points earned from performing them.
