Starbags are enemies from Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. They are commonly found in sandy areas and are invisible to the eye and can only be seen with their footprints. They reveal themselves when Mario (or Luigi) stands still. They release 20 Star Bits upon being defeated which can be useful for feeding Hungry Lumas to unlock new Galaxies. They are similar to Moneybags and Coin Coffers and could be related to them. A visual difference between Starbags and Moneybags is that a Starbag looks like a sack, and a Moneybag like a Clamp-like purse. Also, Starbags have white eyes with black pupils and blue irises, peeling out a black gap, while Moneybags have yellow, glowing oval pupils.

History[]

Super Mario Galaxy[]

Starbags first appear in Super Mario Galaxy where they can be found walking through the sands of the Good Egg Galaxy, Gusty Garden Galaxy, Sea Slide Galaxy, Gateway Galaxy, and the Deep Dark Galaxy located around areas consisting of sand or dirt grounds. Unlike the Moneybags, rather than disguising themselves as a Star Bit, Starbags, turn invisible and start fleeing from Mario/Luigi as he gets closer leaving footprints in their invisible wake, if the plumbers stand still, the Starbag may reveal itself. A Starbag can be stunned by Star Spinning in it's radius and then running into it to finish it off and obtain the 20 Star Bits. The Plumbers can also toss a Shell or a fireball at a Starbag, but the Starbags can duck them.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[]

Starbags return again in Super Mario Galaxy 2 however this time, they are much more rare with only two appearing in the whole game and they are only seen in the Starshine Beach Galaxy. Just as before, the Moneybags turn invisible and flee from the plumbers upon sight leaving footprints behind in their invisible wake, just as before, Starbags can be defeated with the same attacks as before (a Star Spin within a nearby radius) and release 20 Star Bits upon defeat.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike the Moneybag, the Starbag cannot hurt Mario/Luigi upon contact despite being considered an enemy.
