Star (Yoshi's Island series)

Stars are one of the collectible items in the Yoshi's Island series. They make their first appearance in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Collecting each Star increases the number on the Countdown Timer, which starts at 10 and can go up to 30. At the end of each level, the number of Stars that a Yoshi has is tallied up at the end, along with the number of Red Coins and Smiley Flowers. During this, a Yoshi can receive up to 30 points for the Stars he has collected, specifically the same number on which the Countdown Timer was set. Stars are acquired through a variety of means, such as by breaking open a Winged Cloud or certain crates.
