The Stage is one of the main features of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. It is where Mario does all of his battles on and it also consists of the Audience that watches.

Hazards[]

Sometimes, the stage itself may try to hurt Mario and his partners or sometimes even the enemy themselves. Sometimes, the hazard may even fall into the crowd. The hazards may include:

  • A basin may fall on someone. If this hits Mario, his partner, or an enemy, they take 1 damage.
  • A Klieg light (the stage lights that hang from the rafters) may fall on a character dealing 1 damage. This may cause the Electrified status.
  • A bucket may fall on a character. Unlike the basin, this may cause dizziness and deals 1 point of damage if not guarded against.
  • The stage background itself may fall down. Depending on the type of background, it may hit just Mario's team, just the enemy's team, or even everyone on the stage. This causes only 1 point of damage and it can be guarded against.
  • The stage sprayers (the footlights) may spray freezing mist onto the characters which will cause the Frozen status. This becomes available when Mario becomes a B-List star.
  • Water may pour down from above, curing any status ailments such as Burn or Poison. This becomes available when Mario becomes a B-List star.
  • Fog may suddenly appear on the stage. This will cause both sides moves to sometimes miss. The fog can be blown away either by Admiral Bobbery's explosion attacks or Flurrie's Gale Force technique. This becomes available when Mario becomes a B-List Star.
  • The stage sprayers (the footlights) may shoot explosive firecrackers that damage the characters. This becomes available when Mario becomes an A-List Star.
  • Dark blue caterpillar-like creatures may fall on characters. This can range to one small caterpillar-like creature followed shortly after by several smaller ones, or a bigger one. Both can cause Confusion if not guarded against and the big one also deals 1 point of damage. This becomes available when Mario becomes an A-List Star.
  • A large fork may fall from the ceiling and hit someone for 2 points of damage and removing positive status conditions. This becomes available when Mario becomes an A-List Star.
  • A giant statue of Bowser may fall on the stage dealing 5 points of damage and confusing either Mario's team or the enemy's team. This one is pretty rare to appear, will never fall onto the audience, and becomes available when Mario becomes a Superstar.
  • The stage sprayers (the footlights) may shoot out jets of fire onto the characters which can damage and burn them (If Mario is wearing the Ice Power badge, he won't get burnt and he'll take less damage. Also, Grodus and Bowser's fire attacks will not burn him and he'll take less damage!). This becomes available when Mario becomes a Superstar.
  • A giant meteor will fall onto the stage and deal 3 points of damage to both Mario's team and the enemy's team. This can also cause dizziness. This is the rarest hazard, never falls onto the audience, and becomes available when Mario becomes a Superstar.
