Squigglers are a caterpillar-like species which appear to be younger forms of Wigglers that debut in New Super Mario Bros.. Unlike Wigglers, Squigglers don't possess legs and instead crawl along the floors. With three body segments and a head about twice the size as the other segments with a sprout on it's head, this tiny Wiggler crawls around the perimeter of pipes and walls and are obviously the baby versions of the Wigglers. It can be inferred that they are born in pipes. When they mature enough they (presumably) become a Wiggler, then a Flutter.

A Squiggler

Squigglers first appear in New Super Mario Bros., in this game, only appear in World 7-A as enemies. Squigglers are seen emerging from the Pipes found throughout the level and then slowly crawl around along the ground, like Spike Tops, Squigglers can even cling to the sides of walls and even upside them. Due to obviously being baby Wigglers, they can be easily defeated by simply stomping on them or defeating them with the effects of a Fire Flower, Blue Shell, Mega Mushroom, or a Starman.

Squiggler Farm DX

A Squiggler approaching the rock in the remake.

Only a single Squiggler appears in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story where, unlike the past game, is more friendly. Also, the Squiggler is yellow in color rather than cream. It is seen managing a vegetable garden farm in Dimble Wood and it speaks with Bowser. However, Bowser says that vegetables are gross and meat is tasty, but the Squiggler only responds by saying a healthy body doesn't crave meat and hides behind a rock. The Squiggler later appears once Bowser learns the Sliding Punch where it notices Bowser's newfound ability and notes that he could maybe use it to clear the garden of the rocks. The Squiggler returns in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey reprising it's role from the original.

Trivia[]

  • Due to being baby variations of Wigglers, Squigglers aren't shown to get enraged upon being stomped.
