Mario Party

Squared Away is a recurring 1-vs.-3 minigame in the Mario Party series. It first appears in Mario Party 5 and returns in Mario Party: The Top 100 and Mario Party Superstars.

Opening[]

The solo character stands on a block in the upper-left corner as the tiles for the grid drop down on the board. The four blocks drop down: three big ones and one small one, and the solo character jumps into the small one.

Gameplay[]

Each of the characters are in blocks that are moving around on a large, square platform. The three players must work together to squish the single player, who is in a smaller but faster-moving block, within the time limit. In turn, the solo character must avoid being squished by the three. The trio must work together as, even though they're in much larger blocks, they move much slower than the single player. The single player as an advantage in moving around much quicker than the team and being able to move through gaps. Whoever completes their goal by the 30 second time limit wins.

Ending[]

Squared Away ending MP5

The ending to Squared Away if the team wins in Mario Party 5

In Mario Party 5, the losing side is chased by several Thwomps in the background, tripping along the way, while the winners perform their respective victory animation on top of a golden Thwomp.

In Mario Party Superstars, the winning characters perform their respective victory poses in the middle of the arena, while the losing characters perform their respective losing animations in the top-left corner of the arena.

Controls[]

The controls are the same in all three iterations of the minigame.

  • Control Stick: Move

Trivia[]

  • This mini-game works in a similar manner to Tree Stomp from Mario Party 4 as both mini-games involve the three players in something large and slow trying to take out the lone player who is smaller and is able to move quickly.
